tubaguy 0 Report post Posted April 18, 2008 What do you expect from a large group of fans. Any large group of fans act like morons. Case in point: southern fans that think blowing on a little kazoo when a piece of trash "player" steps out on the ice.
NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted April 18, 2008 Philly fans....no surprise. I remember back when the Vikings played the Eagles in the Playoffs. Some of their fans spat on the family of Daunte Culpepper. Now I hate the Vikes more than any other football team, but no one deserves to be treated like that. Absolute BS! Opie 308 Report post Posted April 18, 2008 Forgive my ignorance but I am not sure how that differs from me chanting Arod Sucks, Arod Sucks, Jeter Blows. (the key to this chant is to chant the AROD part nice and slow and the Jeter part really fast!!! I mean nothing unites a fan base like a good chant. Here is a great example: I am at a Patriots game with a group of friends, the Pats are playing the Redskins, we are at the gate and in front of us are a bunch of Redskins fans. The guy next to me starts chanting Redskins suck, now I am not saying Pats fans are the picture of class, but they usually don't chant crap like that until after the Pats are well ahead, I attribute that to suffering through the Tony Eason years. But the guy who started the chant is wearing a Yankees hat, I politely point out that he is wearing a Yankees cap to a Pats game, he tells me to F**k off. My Retort: YANKEES SUCK!!! the whole group of us waiting outside to get into the stadium including some of the Redskins fans start chanting YANKEES SUCK!! Now granted Yankees suck or Jeter Blows is different than dropping the F bomb in front of a bunch of kids, but by how much really?
GoalieManPat 1,007 Report post Posted April 18, 2008 Ehh its not so much a Philly fan thing. You put alcohol and a sporting event and a large amount of fans together and its what you get. I remember being at the Yankees-Tigers playoff clincher a couple years back and the whole crowd would chant "GayRod" when Alex Rodriguez would come out. Really I have no problem with fans chanting something. Theres no violence which is the big thing just fans razzing an opposing player.
C-Dub 0 Report post Posted April 18, 2008 A classless team would attract classless fans...would they should have sang is "FU Hartnell!"
ufcredwingfan 0 Report post Posted April 18, 2008 (edited) Its no big deal at least there chanting something. Whenever I got to a Wings game its pretty dead in there. Noise is better than no noise. Turkey 0 Report post Posted April 18, 2008 No surprise here. Philly fans are notorious for being incredibly obnoxious. They won't hesitate to rip their own teams, loudly, if they play badly. Angriest fan base in all sports. It must be something in the water.
IceMunkee 15 Report post Posted April 18, 2008 In a league where fans cheer for fights, big hits and goons why do people want class. Ridiculous. Pluck Ovechkin. Who cares. How about pluck Tootoo? We have said that many times. Remember the pot is as black as the kettle
WhiteLightning91 105 Report post Posted April 18, 2008 What's the big deal? Ovechkin is the opposing teams best player. Who cares what they say? I've never understood the whole issue of "class" amongst teams people seem to care so much about on these boards. It's sports people! I think that would actually be one of the funniest things to ever take part in at a Wings game. Of course, you would have to get the suits off their blackberry's for ten minutes in order for this to happen...I believe the fans at Red Wings games have too much class. I love when fans get rowdy and talk s*** about the other teams. Healthy competition. No one's hurt. No foul. Big deal. Lack of class? Maybe. But not really anything out of the ordinary when it comes to sporting events in America.
Swayze 81 Report post Posted April 18, 2008 There's a big difference between "Ovechkin sucks!" and "F*ck Ovechkin"...and that difference is class.
MabusIncarnate 5,359 Report post Posted April 18, 2008 I was born and raised in Philadelphia, and the fans are garbage. It's hard going to any philly sporting event without the risk of getting into a fight or getting something thrown at you. I went to a flyers game and one fan had a pocket full of batteries that he was throwing at a woman who was wearing a Devils jersey. Veterans stadium (The Eagles old stadium) was the first ever sports facility with jail cells in it. The fans cheer when an opposing player gets seriously injured, and yell profanity when he gets pulls off on a stretcher. They even booed santa clause during halftime of an eagles/cowboys game because they were losing and tossed snowballs at him. It's a garbage city to go to for sporting events, I wouldn't be caught dead wearing a wings jersey at a flyers game out of risk of some drunken fool picking a fight with me. My uncle who is a Michigan native was the one who got me into hockey about 20 years ago, hence my love for the wings and not the flyers.

NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted April 18, 2008 There's a big difference between "Ovechkin sucks!" and "F*ck Ovechkin"...and that difference is class. There's not much difference in class between "Ovechkin sucks!" and "F*ck Ovechkin". One isn't classy and the other is even less classy.
NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted April 18, 2008 LOL wow thats amazing I wish we had half the enthusiasm their fans had How would you feel if you had to cover your child's ears as you were heading down the escalator? I know I wouldn't have liked being in that situation with a little one. I'm all for fans getting into it, giving the other team (and their fans) a hard time, but screaming "f*** Ovechkin" in a place where kids are plentiful isn't appropriate regardless of the fact that you're at a competitive sporting event. redwinger4747 6 Report post Posted April 18, 2008 (edited) Oh c'mon, this is exactly the kind of stuff we do at Michigan games here at Yost to rattle the other team. It's just fans being obnoxious but thats what fans are supposed to do. This is not Disney on ice, these are the Stanley Cup Playoffs. If you don't want your children hearing bad language, don't bring them to a hockey game. Sorry if this is insensitive, but that is how I feel. Yes, you hit the nail on the head, that is EXACTLY what we do at Yost and it is the reason why Yost is the most feared rink for opposing teams to play in. timothy1997 0 Report post Posted April 18, 2008 I don't even need to look at the video. "philadelphia" and "class" just don't go together. Philadelphia is the city that booed or threw snowballs (not sure which one it was) at Santa Claus. That should tell you everything you need to know.

If you're taking your little kid to a Flyer's playoff game, or any playoff game, you have to expect your child to hear things like that... what's the difference between that and the chant that 30 teams in the league use when the ref makes a bad call, "BULLs***......BULLs***...."
