up2here 41 Report post Posted April 28, 2008 (edited) What I don't understand is why the Sharks didn't deal him for somebody, anybody, at the deadline. I would have given the "C" to Clowe and let Joe off the hook by letting him keep his "A". I think Clowe would make a better captain than Marleau and you really can't strip Marleau of it without creating bad karma in the room so you trade him and get a decent scorer back and fix your leadership issue at the same time. I'm guessing they tried to trade him but his salary drastically reduced the number of teams willing to acquire him. Edited April 28, 2008 by UP2HERE

Zion 93 Report post Posted April 28, 2008 He likes the sunshine and the fact that nobody in the state knows who he is or cares how badly he chokes in the playoffs. Boston was a pressure cooker compared to SOCAL and I think he was so glad to get out of there that he would have resigned on the moon if it meant that the local media and fans would just leave him alone and focus on surfers and beach volleyball players instead. San Jose is northern California. Different atmosphere. Same "nobody in the state knows who he is" attitude.
Izzy24 44 Report post Posted April 28, 2008 Not to nitpick, but San Jose is in northern california, not southern. No surfers, no volleyball. They've got beaches, but no one in their right mind wants to see 'em. I understand your point, but there are alot of teams in non-hockey markets where the coach isn't a complete tool shed. NorCal has lots of surfers, maybe even more than SoCal.
VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted April 28, 2008 I'm not realy sure why Wilson and Marleau are still around. Wilson is a little whiney dog and Marleau is a perennial let-down.

Donaldjr2448 43 Report post Posted April 28, 2008 I think that the Sharks problems start at the coach! I say that because, he always uses refernces lie Honta yo, and the damn toilet seat. Yes these types of things will work in college and high school sports, but NOT with pros!! How many times have you heard Babas or Scotty use "you know back in 1385 an Indian tribe...." NEVER!! Because they are going to ignore it!! Scotty and Babs always focus on the positive and make changes, even if it hurts someone feelings! I just don't feel that Wilson has that ability! Ipersonally think that JR should be wearing the C, I think he is Captain material. I just don't understand why teams think that Ron Wilson is a good coach! Dare I say he is the Paul Karyia of coaches!!!
HockeyCrazy3033 168 Report post Posted April 28, 2008 Is it safe to assume that if the Sharks are knocked out that Ron Wilson is as good as gone?
scottDFW 0 Report post Posted April 28, 2008 As for TSN, I don't know if they are negative but I can tell you they are bias for sure, Especially against Red Wings. If you've been watching TSN this is nothing new but this is getting worse to an unreasonable level. The best thing is, what they say/write doesn't change a thing that happens on the ice. The Wings certainly have the power to make many a sports writer eat a heaping helping of crow.
jpfalcon09 0 Report post Posted April 28, 2008 All Ron has to do is yell HANTA YO BABY! and he'll turn into Crazy Horse and raise hell against the rest of the league. Maybe then his team will start to play, knowing their coach can kill them at any point.
miller76 463 Report post Posted April 28, 2008 NorCal has lots of surfers, maybe even more than SoCal. Ummm I am not thinking that is the case. Maybe a few in the Santa Cruz area at best. Head out to Huntington Beach at sunrise, as well as other numerous beaches here. Anyways people here pay attention to what players are doing, choking, getting in trouble with the law and so on. There are just many other newsworthy stories the media feels are more important at times. The stories are there, just not drilled into our heads every 2 seconds from every media outlet, so in turn makes us look like we dont like hockey or whatever! I have said it before, if it's not entertainment industry news, then it's backburner!
RedLightGoesOn 81 Report post Posted April 28, 2008 Wait... the Sharks arent winning in the playoffs? How is this news? Wilson a poor coach? How is this news? Patty M sipping wine between intermission? How is this news? Honestly what did you expect. Dallas is playing a lot better than the Sharks. Plus, poopoo on the Sharks for letting their series with Calgary go to 7 games. Thats not what "one of the most dominant teams in the NHL" does to the 7th seed Flames, thats not what a dominant team does. Nabokov isnt the best thing since sliced bread either... when it comes to crucial games, he looks like a kid flailing his arms around pretending he can fly, much like Hasek, except it works most of the time for Hasek. Nabokov cant win games, and you need your goaltender to steal a game or two in the playoffs. And "Big" Joe Thorton, if anything that is Big about Joe Thorton its his ranking on goals scored in the playoffs this season...which is tied for last. When the Sharks start winning, now thats news-worthy.

Third Man In 2,091 Report post Posted April 28, 2008 Is it safe to assume that if the Sharks are knocked out that Ron Wilson is as good as gone? I don't think anything is ever safe to assume with the Sharks. But yes, one would hope. I think the RW and Marleau compound each other's ineptitude. I've never been impressed with RW as a coach nor with Marleau as a captain. Doggy's right--jumping to avoid that shot in game one really summed up his leadership abilities. He played well in the middle of the Calgary series and seemed to finally be establishing himself, but then he promptly disappears for the next 4 games. Hard to believe he's the captain when you have much more capable leaders like Thorton and Grier on that team. But Marleau is RW's guy. And way to lump together all of Canada with TSN. Prick. cirov19 1 Report post Posted April 28, 2008 http://watch.tsn.ca/nhl/clip49130#clip49130 I've watched the video several times and haven't heard him actually say the words TSN, or Canada. All I can manage to hear is "No...It's always fricking negative." Am I missing something? Also, Marleau's jump is inexcusable, and embarassing. Either way, Ronny made an idiot out of himself. "Ron Wilson can say he's happy with our captain and march off our set all he wants.... the guy's gotta be better." Thank you TSN for saying something worth listening to. It's right after he says "it's always fricken negative", TSN has muted the audio though so you can't hear him say "that's tsn for you, that's Canada for you!". I saw it live so they didn't have a chance to mute the audio at the end. They were showing the whole unedited clip on Sportnet and ESPN later that night too. WisconsinWingNut 0 Report post Posted April 29, 2008 I think the media always asks stupid questions and I like when the person being asks goes off on them (I remember when Lloyd Carr made a reports look like an ass while heading to the locker room before halftime). But a question about Marleau is definitely warranted. He's been non-existent. Wilson's ALWAYS been a d-bag though. I'm sure a lot of you recall "Hanta-Yo!" from the '98 highlight DVD when he was coaching the Caps. I see he now has a toilet seat over the locker room door for the Sharks. Major ******. "Hanta-Yo!" THAT'S what it was. I was trying to remember what he said and I'm going through the list: Hakuna Matada? NO, that's Lion King... Haku Mashente? NO, The Rock said that as The Scorpion King... What did that bonehead say before the Wings swept the Caps in '98? Hanta-Yo! Thank you!
