NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted May 5, 2008 (edited) Welcome to the 3rd Round of the 2008 Playoff Picks Game. Picks for this round will be accepted now through the opening face-off this Thursday (5-8). Mods, if you don't mind please Pin this thread for a couple days. ** NOTICE: For this (and the subsequent rounds) please follow the template below when making your picks. This will speed things up for myself immensely. Keep in mind that this is just a template, and not my actual picks! As you'll notice, I'd like you to bold the team you feel is going to win the series and then post the series score in numerical format. DET/DAL: 4-2 PIT/PHI: 4-1 Feel free to post any questions, and best of luck to you all. Final first round standings will be up as soon as I finish two "gems" that I'm working on for the Photoshop Wars thread. Once again, please copy and paste this template below and use it to post your picks: DET/DAL: 4- PIT/PHI: 4- Below are the current standings through the conclusion of Round 2: Rank - Player - Round 2 Final Score 1 wings1fan19 74 2 winsgnut_19 70 3 Lidstrom5 D-Man 69 3 UKWING 69 5 Welt 68 5 wingsgirl001 68 7 Giant Robot 67 7 interminded 67 7 Wildwings44 67 10 3dominikhasek9 66 10 Dano33 66 12 Ontario Wingsfan 65 13 rwfan007 64 14 Doggy 63 14 johnnyoski 63 14 vangvace 63 14 zetterisbetter 63 18 HockeyCrazy3033 62 18 Wings_Dynasty 62 20 dgodzina 61 20 Echolalia 61 20 edicius 61 20 Frozen-Man 61 20 PunkChildP 61 20 redwings2002 61 20 tweekvp 61 27 Breadgy 60 27 pjgj13 60 27 scotvm 60 30 Hockey13Playa 59 30 Z and D for the C 59 32 Batigol2k 57 32 CaliWingsNut 57 32 Never Forget Mac #25 57 32 puckhead 57 32 StaticWithABeat 57 37 awingsincebirth 56 38 55fan 55 38 Dominator2005 55 38 McCartyFanForLife 55 38 redwingslady87 55 38 Shaman464 55 38 wingsfan40 55 44 calfan 54 44 dallas27 54 44 Donohue75 54 44 JayUp88 54 44 juice71285 54 44 redwinger4747 54 44 The Nephilim 54 51 Firehawk 53 51 IceMunkee 53 51 marcaractac 53 51 WhiteLightning91 53 55 FinWing 52 55 pavyaz19 52 55 VM1138 52 58 Bluedevils_13 51 59 Eva Unit Zero 50 60 hckypete96 49 61 captainsteviey 48 61 GoWings1905 48 61 PashaFan 48 61 RedWingedKitten 48 65 jim3033 47 65 redwingrob 47 65 wingsfan979802 47 65 Wingslogo19 47 69 This Is Bida 46 70 -=Red_Force=- 45 70 BlackhawksFan 45 70 Majsheppard 45 70 naranja 45 70 RedStormRising 45 70 russianswede919293 45 70 sibiriak 45 77 aflac9262 43 77 Aussie_Wing 43 77 CupChamps979802 43 80 Herr Hockey 42 80 OsGOD 42 80 Redwingsfan18 42 80 WiNgSowN 42 84 hillbillywingsfan 41 84 Reds4Life 41 84 TRD604 41 87 #19=Legend 40 87 Greatness=PavelDatsyuk 40 87 Gutierrez 40 87 lets go pavel 40 87 Lou-Siffer 40 92 Barrie 39 92 FinRedWing 39 92 Lebda22 39 92 Superman54 39 92 ultrapail 39 97 Drake_Marcus 38 98 ashenhigh 37 99 evil204 35 99 Saran 35 99 tazzer82 35 99 TheHoff 35 103 omnipotent_hudler 34 103 RedLightGoesOn 34 103 Vladinator 34 103 Yzerman191 34 103 yzershanafan 34 108 Hank=FutureCaptain 33 108 hoogs 33 108 The_Clear(y)_Picture 33 111 KillerB14 32 111 Never_Retire_Steve 32 111 shannyfan1414 32 111 timothy1997 32 115 mmorland 31 116 CrossCheck24 28 116 Kp-Wings 28 118 bellarina 27 119 T-Ruff 26 119 F.Michael 26 121 Magus Relmyn 25 122 12Newf 24 123 Hockeytown0001 20 123 Beeryce 20 123 #96 20 126 bluejackets61 19 127 WingsWingsWings 14 127 WingsWingsWings-Wife 14 127 PhoenixAD 14 130 redwing_sparty 13 130 Duck Guy 13 132 swedeforall 7 Edited May 6, 2008 by Never Forget Mac #

DET/DAL: 4-1 PIT/PHI: 4-3 You can, but there's not much chance of finishing in the top 100 given that you are only able to pick up a maximum of 24 points in the next 2 rounds. Sidenote: I wonder if I shouldn't weighting the point system next year given that the first round has 8 more points possible than the following 3 rounds combined. Thoughts anyone? pjgj13 30 Report post Posted May 5, 2008 DET over DAL 4-1 PHI over PIT 4-3 I hope it comes down to the Wings and Flyers. I work with ALOT of Flyer fans and the trash talking would be great. As well as another sweep of them!! GO WINGS!!

I think that is how most NCAA tournament picks are done. Although you have to pick the entire tourney ahead of time where in our case, if you screw up a round, you start from scratch in the next round because the picks are done each round. I do like the idea of weighing the points though

I think that would be a good idea. with the current system you can basically wrap up the victory in the 1st round if you pick perfectly. Maybe simple multipliers of 2,3,4 for latter rounds..? edicius 3,269 Report post Posted May 5, 2008 Blech. I bombed in the 2nd round. Not nearly as good as my 1st round picks. Onto the 4rd round. DET/DAL: 4-1 PIT/PHI: 4-

Maybe simple multipliers of 2,3,4 for latter rounds..? That's not a bad idea. It might not be a bad idea if I do the multipliers (2,3,4 for the latter rounds) but continue to hold the bonus points at 1 a piece just to keep things from swaying too much. Thoughts on that setup? I like the idea of having all your picks done ahead of time before the playoffs begin and then rewarding you based on if your team actually makes it as far as you predicted. That would defeat the round by round predictions. But the current game is all about the 1st round. Maybe thats why Montreal fans partied after round 1, because they picked well in this game early on. That might be a reasonable compromise. Maybe you can do some mock picking and see how it works once you have extra time on your hands.

That's a pretty simple game to keep track of, but IMHO I think people would prefer to repick after each round since round 2 is juggled due to seedings. Maybe I'm wrong, but I would think people would prefer to keep picking each round since the playoffs aren't set up like the NCAA tournament. There's gotta be a compromise that the majority would prefer. Right now, weighting each round sounds like a decent option.
