SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted May 6, 2008 As for people wandering why there's no NBC on this weekend's set of games, it was exactly like last year. NBC (I am assuming) has exlcusive broadcast rights of the PGA Tour event, TPC at Sawgrass. It's going to happen exactly like last time b/w Wings-Ducks WCF game 2 last year with the game on VS. As much as I think hockey is more exciting as golf, you got to think in the big picture and ratings. The TPC at Sawgrass is one of the biggest professional golf events of the year, NBC wants ratings, and more people in this country can understand/relate to golf over hockey. I'm sorry, but if that's not a 100% fact, it's a really strong opinion of mine. At least the game is on VS so we'll all get to see it in all likelihood, which is what is most important. So, I definitely understand why NBC will choose the PGA Tour event over hockey. Again, all about nationwide ratings and I'm not upset/offended that they aren't showing my favorite team or sport to watch. What's messed up though is switching from an unfinished game to a different event, like it happened last year with the Kentucky Derby or Preakness. I know those two events are big, big deals nationwide and you want the ratings again, but switching like that in the middle of a current sporting event is just unprofessional I think. But I don't blame NBC for this. I blame the NHL higher ups for getting in a deal such as this one for this day last year. NBC is definitely more available nationwide, but to prevent a clusterf**k like what happened last year, just leave the entire game/day for VS exclusive rights. In other words, you could have summed all that up simply by saying that it's all Gary Bettman's fault?
SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted May 6, 2008 In other words, you could have summed all that up simply by saying that it's all Gary Bettman's fault? I wasn't really thinking that, but if you want that to be the default answer, then sure.
