Personally i don't think they are bias, just not very good at what they do.They don't say bad things about the Wings, just don't fluff them up.Remember everyone roots for the underdog.Wings have been soooo good for so long and we are used to bias from Mickey and Ken.We are all fans of hockey but think if you were a new fan watching the game and you watch the Wings dominate day in and day out you need some kind of excuse for the domination to create a fan base not just for Wings but the sport in general.

Good post. I think that at least part of the problem with the announcers is that they don't talk about what Detroit does for the same reason that our fans don't cheer every little play they make. The Wings have been so good for so long that it's pretty much all been said before at one time or another. The excuse making for Dallas is however getting a little old.

As far as Mickey being biased I don't see it so much. Yes it's obvious that he loves the Wings but he also loves the game and will call bulls*** when he sees it. I can't count how many times I've heard him say that a weak hooking or some other lame penalty called on the team playing against the Wings is bulls***. You don't hear that nearly as much from announcers of other teams, or even ones in the playoffs that are supposed to be neutral.

The reason there is bias against the wings is that they are good. You are much more likely to turn off the game if your team is losing than if they are winning. Thus, when a team is losing the commentators talk about what they are doing wrong because thats the losing teams fans want to get some coverage and feel like they are still involved in the game. It's also important in selling the rest of the series. If they just said, Dallas isn't even a match for Detroit and this series is a joke the ratings would drop quicker than McCarty's gloves.
