Local Radio Stations

Normally I rarely listen to the radio while driving, as I prefer to use CDs. Earlier today I was listening to the radio for a little bit while driving, and I turned on channel 95.5. I got pretty frustrated listening to this. Not once, were the Detroit Red Wings mentioned. During their commercials and such, they kept promoting the Pistons, and them currently being in the Eastern Conf. Finals, and congratulating them.

I feel that this has something to do with how the Wings aren't as big here anymore as they used to be. Back in the late 90's and earlier in the 2000's, Red Wings would be equally mentioned by radio stations in the Detroit area, promoting the team, and giving them props for their accomplishments. Now, as I said earlier in this post, I don't usually listen to radio stations much anymore, so I don't know if all radio stations ignore the Red Wings, or if it's just 95.5. I do know however, back in the dates mentioned, that this radio station gave the Wings equal treatment.

I'm not sure if the team is supposed to pay for this type of advertisement, and maybe the Wings don't. I highly doubt thats the case, but it could be a slim reason why. Maybe someone that knows more about this, or has noticed this could post why this is like it is. This is Hockeytown after all, it just doesn't feel like playoff hockey when you don't hear on the radio what we used to.

dude its channel 95.5 the only mention of sports you're gonna hear is if tony romo dumps jessica simpson. besides lets face it the town isnt as hungry for a stanley cup as we were in 97. 40 years of waiting will do that to you. Don't let it stop you from showing your enthusiasm. i'll still rock my zetterberg banner/tshirts and yell as loud as anyone in the sports bar. Im just pissed i will be in SC for games 6 and 7 so im rooting for a 5 game win for the wings

I get what you're saying, but I'm comparing it to the past years, when their commercials and such actually congratulated the Wings on their success. Now, it's all about the Pistons. Maybe it's just getting on my nerves because I'm not much of an NBA fan and I'd rather the Wings get the extra talk rather then the Pistons.

Try listening to 97.1, it's talk radio and they occasionally mention the Wings, though mostly when something goes wrong as in we start losing or the Ribeiro incident. Of course a good 95% of the time they're just bitching about how bad the Tigers are this year and what's wrong with them, seriously I listen to this station at work and that has been the number one topic since Tiger's lost game 1.

As for 95.5, it primarily plays terrible pop hip-hop music so I'm somehow not surprised they're not mentioning the Wings that much sadly.

On 95.5, was it commercials or the deejays who mentioned the Pistons?

97.1 talks about the Wings quite a lot. The 10-2 and 2-6 shows usually spend more time on other sports but definitely don't shy away from talking hockey, but the evening/night guys--Caputo, Fithian, Reger... they talk hockey more than any other sport.
