He's an RFA in 2009, and the talk earlier in the year was that he was going to try and test the market.

Having said that, the Wings have the right to match whatever he is offered, and even if he jumps ship we still get compensated with draft picks on a sliding scale based upon his salary. I forget the exact details, but if he signs with someone else for say $3M, we get a 1st and a 3rd.

I think anything up to that we can match easily, above that, and will teams be prepared to give up those picks for a 2nd line player?

ps, yes he was terrific, and really elevated his play in the finals - that weeks rest did him the world of good IMO.

2008 along with a bunch of others:

looks like the wings should score like 400 goals next year :P. There's only so many goals to go around.

In 02, Robitaille, Fedorov, Hull, Yzerman, and Shanahan all had 30 plus goals. It's not impossible to think

Zetterberg could get 40-45

Franzen 30-35

Datsyuk 25-30

Filppula 25-30

Holmstrom 25-30

Id say next year we could see 50+ out of Hank

I see him possibly turning into a poor mans zetterberg in the future, incredible both ways with an ability to shoot and score in any give position, i think filp has created alot of plays for himself and has made alot of power moves, he just needs to bulk up a little more and learn how to finish

You know he was a little shaky at the beginning of the playoffs (all those missed chances), but MAN, did he come through. He may get knocked around a bit but he NEVER EVER shies away from driving into the zone, corner or to the net. Fearless. He has great skill too. If you think about it, Datsyuk was always getting knocked around as a youngster, but never gave up either and then got very strong. I see Flip getting stronger, better and smarter every single game too. He is also clutch in a big time way. As for hustle and heart, forget about it, he is in the tops and his game 5 play was 100% on all the time.

Saw a quote in the paper - he is a RFA and there is no way Holland will let him go. No worries man, no worries at all.

P.S. A non Detroit hockey fan actually commented on Flip to me. Something like, "I never heard of this guy before, but he is great. Where do you guys keep finding these guys?"

Im actually amazed that Wings scouting hasnt discovered finnish goalies yet since there is so many of them compared to amount of swedish goalies, Liv would be a backup goalie in finnish league.

Even Tim Thomas came to finnish league to develop himself and he's pretty damn good now...

...just wondering...
