Disclaimer: I am not Eklund, and this will probably be my one and only endeavor into the "scoop" business but I found this information interesting and I figured that if nothing else it will spark some conversations.

I met someone today by chance that has been with the Detroit Red Wings for 26 years and has 3 championship rings to prove it, with a fourth on the way! (He was wearing his 1998) His job within the organization affords him the chance to talk to Mike Babcock on a daily basis and Scotty Bowman three to four times a week. The reason I mention these facts is so you can make your own judgement as to the accuracy of the rumors. I will number the rumors...some are really no big deal, others are more interesting.

1.We first talked about Scotty Bowman and he shared with me that Scotty had 3 interviews for the Toronto Maple Leafs position. The reason he didn't take position is because at his age (75) Scotty doesn't believe that he has the time nor the energy to turn around the organization and that one of the main problems is they are owned by a canadian teachers union and there are too many cooks spoiling the soup.

2. I asked him about Fedorov and the trade deadline and if the Red Wings really had the bad blood we as fans assume they do towards Sergi. He said that Fedorov is a really nice guy and that the reason the Red Wings ultimately decided not to bring him in at the trade deadline is because of his unconsistancy and the asking price. The main concern with signing Fedorov will always be which Sergi is going to show up, but he said that he doesn't think it's out of the question that we'll see him in Detroit someday, although he suspects Washington is a pretty good fit as well.

3. Finally I asked if the Wings had any interest in Sundin and he said that of course if Sundin wanted to come play for the Wings and the price was right they would take him but he thinks it's unlikely that Sundin will leave Toronto with Ron Wilson coming in to coach this year, he offered that the name he has heard kicked around the most this summer is Hossa. Apparently the Red Wings really wanted to aquire him at the deadline and the one key thing that continues to fuel the speculation is that apparently after game six when the players were shaking hands Hossa said to "a Red Wings player" that he would really like to come play with him.

That's is...no real big scoops here but it was enough to get me excited for the day to share it with everyone. My 2 cents: I would love to see Hossa a Red Wing, but I think that it will be hard for the Wings to compete with the deal that the Pens offered him and saying you want to play somewhere, and actually passing up that kind of money to do it are two different things...It will be fun to see what happens!

Seems credible to me.

Anyways, the only way I see Hossa ending up here is if Stuart is gone, and even with that it will still be a strech. Don't get me wrong, I would love to see Hossa here, but I just don't think it's possible with the extensions coming for Zetterberg and Franzen.

Agreed...unless he is willing to play here for 5 or 6 million a season and as much as I love the Red Wings I don't think I would turn down the 7million and the chance to play with Sid the Kid. It's not like it's the LA Kings or Florida Panthers offering him the money.

I like it. I just heard it all on the phone, but what a really cool chance meeting! I like the idea of Hossa being here, who wouldn't, but it is unlikely. I would be willing to part with some bigger names on the team for him. Aside from Zetterburg, Dats, and Lidstrom anyone else would be expendable.

Feds, well I would love to replace Sammy with Feds. Whatever the way he left here. It is Fedarov!

Anyway good read and I think you should email Eklund and feed his dumb ass fake rumors. Atleast you know you have a more credible source then him!

I highly doubt Hossa told a Wings player he'd like to play with them in the handshake line. The rest seems fine and dandy enough. Nothing to give it away as a fake, nothing to really back it up.

Just more rumors.

yeah that would have been an incredibly classless move by Hossa to say something like that with the blood and sweat of defeat still on him and his teammates.

the rest all seems pretty common sense though

I don't doubt that Hossa said it, I just am not sure he really meant it. Why would a Wings player lie about Hossa? or why would the source lie about the Wings player? There was really nothing to gain either way...oh well as I said, take it for what it's worth.

Yeah seems strange, wouldn't a pittsburgh player hear that? Also, though I saw in an interview hossa said he would like to come back to pittsburgh for a cheaper price. Maybe he's confused after a grueling playoff heh. I hope Fedorov comes back soely for the reason my lgw wont look so out of place :)

Hossa did turn down a $7M/yr offer to see what else is out there. Doesn't sound like he really wants to take less cash to play with Pitt. ( or maybe any contender for that matter) It is gonna cost big $$ for anyone. Who knows what was said in the handshake line. Aaron Ward was the reportedly the first person Scotty told he had just coached his last game.

Zetterberg will have to take Datsuyk money (6.7 mill) .. cant sign another d (3 mill) .. and we would have to pass on resigning Sammy .. if the cap keeps goin up every year i dont see it not happening . hossa would have to take a pay cut to about 7 mill .. and i say f*** that pay him 6.7 !! lol nah it would be cool as s*** but holland has to do some serious number crunching

I think that's just a coincidence, probably because Ward was first in line from Carolina when they started shaking hands after the game. It's not like Scotty sought him out.

As the saying goes, money talks and BS walks. We'll know where Hossa stands later this morning. I don't deny what he said in line, but that doesn't mean he won't take a sweet contract elsewhere. It looks to me like he had no intention of returning to the Pens, though.

The guy said he'd take a pay cut to sign with a contender. It was well known for a while the Pens were gonna start having issues when their stars needed extensions, and thats exactly what started to happen. They let Malone walk because they wanted Hossa, and now Hossa is gonna walk as well. Roberts said himself they have to tie up their money in other places.

But there HAS to be something going on with that franchise for everyone to be bolting like that. I'd say it's their coach. Eiter way, I don't blame Hossa for wanting to leave what mess that team is starting to become.

Shero gets way too much credit IMO. Sure he built a cup finals team, but the core of it was obvious choices in top draft pics. The only good thing he has done was getting Fleury the way he did, and even that was a big gamble at the time, it just happened to pay off. And to give away everything he did to get Hossa in the first place? Stupid! Whether you can go for the cup right then and there or not, it was just a stupid move to make in the cap era. It is obvious they couldn't afford to keep that team together after this season, but he made the deal anyway, losing a LOT of depth he can REALLY use for next season. Of all that they've given up, Dupis may be all they get to keep out of it.

As for Hossa to Detroit? It is definitely possible. Crazier things have happened. Do I expect it to happen? I have my doubts. Will I be suprised if it does? I'll certainly be s***tin' kittens if it does. It would require Holland to get real creative, but it is definitely possible. We'll just have to wait and see what happens later on!

It was odd more because Ward was a former player who was in Scotty's dog house all the time. That was the reason that Ward was forced out of the Wings organization. Then Scotty makes Aaron the first person to know. It just seems odd. That is why I said, you don't know what is said in the handshake line unless you are there. This poster has a source who was there.
