edicius 3,269 Report post Posted June 26, 2008 From Dreger on TSN: The Anaheim Ducks expect Scott Niedermayer to declare his intentions on Thursday when Niedermayer meets with general manager Brian Burke. Niedermayer has one year remaining on his contract, so Thursday's decision will impact how Burke approaches Tuesday's free agent frenzy. Emphasis mine. NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted June 26, 2008 ^ Typical We'll talk about this in a month when there's an actual 50/50 shot that Niedermayer has made up his mind.
Reds4Life 51 Report post Posted June 26, 2008 (edited) I'm not going to get into the other topic on the table in Ducks land, but I will say that the buzz around here is that we will be hearing word from Scott Niedermayer as early as tomorrow morning. And while it's well-documented that I don't have a good reputation with this sort of thing, you can book it: He's coming back. And with Scotty coming back, you've got to feel like No. 8 won't be far behind. But let's not count those chickens before they ... have a bird in the hand. Or something like that. http://ducks.nhl.com/team/app/?service=pag...ge&id=12887 Edited June 26, 2008 by Reds4Life
edicius 3,269 Report post Posted June 26, 2008 It's absolutely amazing how much good will and respect Niedermayer has lost over the past year, just as a result of his lack of class with all these delays. Apparently, jerking everyone around in the 2007-08 season wasn't enough for him. Totally classless.

Apparently, jerking everyone around in the 2007-08 season wasn't enough for him. Totally classless. I can't believe he's doing it again. Is the guy really as classless as he looked last year? Apparently so.
DMAC 25 18 Report post Posted June 26, 2008 I thought so too, but Burke was on XM yesterday and backpedaled on Selanne's deadline. (paraphrasing) "Well, Teemu's a free agent, so we can't really give him a deadline and he'll get whatever time he needs to decide." Nice, Burkie. so Selanne probably won't decide until the ducks start to do bad and when they are he'll come back and put them in the playoffs like they did last year
edicius 3,269 Report post Posted June 26, 2008 so Selanne probably won't decide until the ducks start to do bad and when they are he'll come back and put them in the playoffs like they did last year Exactly. And the league will just let him pull that garbage once again. Admittedly, it's not as bad with Selanne as he is a free agent...but come on, it's salary cap shenanigans. Did the league not see this exact same scenario play out last year? And if Niedermayer doesn't decide by training camp (likely) and doesn't report to training camp (ditto), will he be fined $500K again?
Glubki 17 Report post Posted June 26, 2008 (edited) TSN is reporting that he is coming back for one more year... http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=241719&...os=topStory_nhl Edited June 26, 2008 by Glubki
edicius 3,269 Report post Posted June 26, 2008 I'll be damned. Now the question is, will he still act like a diva and not show up for training camp? And with Scotty Needavacation™ definitely returning (and for a full season, to boot!), my guess is that Schneids will be shown the door.

Neids playing has nothing to do with Schneids being shown the door, Neids is already under contract. If Teemu comes back or they want to make a play at a big name forward than yes Shneids will then be shown the door.
edicius 3,269 Report post Posted June 26, 2008 I didn't think they were expecting to have Nieds on for this season though, creating potential salary cap issues. What's their number at now with him on the roster?
Opie 308 Report post Posted June 26, 2008 51.105 cap @ 56.

What's their number at now with him on the roster? Sutherby has also been signed for 1 year at $700,000. That means Gerald Coleman and Shane Hynes are now UFA. Ducks have $53,726,667 toward the cap for 20 players..not including Perry.
