Havent seen this posted yet, but NHL network is saying that Tuomo Ruutu (The better player of the 2 Ruutu's) has signed with the Carolina Hurricanes for 1 year. Supposedly the contract is worth around 2- 2.5 million.

1 year- 2.25 million.

Decent signing, but now I wonder about the Hawks... Is Toews going to be the 1st line center? Certainly it isnt Wings Relics Lang or J-willy...

In case you were unaware, Ruutu was already traded to the Canes at the deadline so technically this is just a re-signing. Hawks got Andrew Ladd in return.

i thought he was traded at the deadline...

he's a classic underacheived...

His whole family seems like underachievers. Seems like all should put more points up....anyways, why would a young guy like Ruutu sign a 1 year deal. That seems odd to me. Usually you see younger guys get multiyear deals and the older fellas get the 1 year contracts.

Ruutu was traded for Ladd at the deadline last year. It was actually a good deal for both sides as Ruutu and Ladd both played considerably better on their new respective teams.

That said, Id still take Ladd. Funny thing is, Ladd is the better of the two and signed to 1.55. Naturally, Ruutu had to be a punk and threaten to walk (I wouldve let him) and ended up earning 2.25. I feel bad for Ladd in general, as Carolina seriously effed up his development. It was VERY clear he shouldnt have stayed in the big leagues, yet they prodded him along where he wound up on the lower lines. The kid is barely 23 and hes already a 4 year veteran. Unless youve got talent coming out your years, its unlikely youre gonna thrive as a teenager. Let alone as a big physical forward, which typically takes you longer to develop. I wouldnt be surrprised to see Ladd take off with Chicago...
