Donaldjr2448 43 Report post Posted June 27, 2008 I could see Phoenix making it!! That was the team that played us in the first round in 1998 when we were defending our first cup!!! Just saying!!
Feldmarschall 9 Report post Posted June 27, 2008 They've got to be banking on pulling in a big free-agent defenseman, because no GM should be comfortable with that team defense. Their #4 and #5 guys as it stands are Keith Yandle and Matt Jones, while their depth consists of two career AHLers, one of whom couldn't even make it in Toronto, of all places. They look to pretty desperately need a shutdown guy.

I could also see them trying to land Pavel Kubina.

How much money do they have? Could Boumeester be an option?
Herr Hockey 0 Report post Posted June 27, 2008 (edited) They are not making the playoffs. Who are they going to beat out for a playoff spot? This is my official prediction Wings Sharks Calgary Dallas Chicago Ducks Colorado St. Louis (believe it) Nashville and Phoenix have way better chances of making the playoffs than Chicago. Some of us Wings fans have such a skewed view of Chicago just because of their luck against us last year. Nashville's balance and Phoenix's goal tending and aggresive forechecking are much more suited for a team trying to make the post season. While Chicago, on the other hand, is much more suited to fill the highlight reels every once and a while. ETA: Hell, after that late season showing last year, I'd even give Edmonton an equal shot of making the PO's as Chicago. Redden would be solid, yeah. I get the impression that Morris is better off as a second-pairing guy anyway. Redden-Jovo is a nice way to load up.
YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted June 27, 2008 Unless the Canucks do something significant before next season there is a very good chance they could be the worst team in the west. Im pretty sure they are going to do something significant. They actually have a lot of cap space this year, and Demitra is already pretty much a lock to join the Nucks. Thats already a slight upgrade on Naslund offensively. And word has it they may even make a pitch for Hossa as well, since Demitra is apparently good friends with him and they have the space to with their only issues being offense. Im pretty sure Vancouver has 20M in cap space, with 1 Goalie (their starter obviously), 6 Dman (their top 6), and 10 forwards signed. Basically the need to re-sign Sanford, and a 7th/depth Dman (Miller? Weaver?) And then can basically have at it with UFA forwards. If you figure about 1.8 between Sanford and a 7th Dman, 1.5M on a 3rd/4th liner, 5M on Demitra (big overpayment but likely to pass) and 8.5 for Hossa, thats about 17M of the 20M available to them, so 3M left for a cushion. Who knows if theyll go the Hossa route, but God knows they have the space with no big upgrades to dole out in the future when the cap will likely be even higher. I like Vancouvers chances next year.. Maybe on the PP, but that could be an absolute disaster defensively..

eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted June 27, 2008 Maybe on the PP, but that could be an absolute disaster defensively.. Redden is one of the better defensive defensemen in the league, and one of the best two-way blueliners in the NHL. It wouldn't be Lidstrom/Rafalski...but the defensive disaster would exist regardless of who Jovanovski were paired with, and Redden is probably one of the BEST options for that role that the Coyotes could hope to get. The big question is...if Vancouver signs some top-end players, but isn't a contender in the next couple years...does Luongo lose his reputation as an elite level netminder?
