FinRedWing 172 Report post Posted July 1, 2008 http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=242142&...os=topStory_nhl Only 4 years? I thought they'd give him AO type of contract.
edicius 3,269 Report post Posted July 1, 2008 A little surprising in terms of...well, term. But not a totally shocking signing.
Valas19 50 Report post Posted July 1, 2008 (edited) His offensive numbers from last year suggest yes but who knows if he can put up those numbers again. 18 goals and 38 assists ain't too shabby though paying that much for a 1 breakout year is risky. Valas19 50 Report post Posted July 1, 2008 Waaaaaay overpaid, what are the Caps thinking???? I image that the way D-men are always in high demand that the devil they know is better than the devil they don't know. They have their point man on the power play locked up. Aussie_Wing 354 Report post Posted July 1, 2008 How good is the Kronwall deal looking right about now? In saying that Green is a great young defenceman so well done by Washington, but that's an awful lot of $.
Guest GordieSid&Ted Report post Posted July 1, 2008 How good is the Kronwall deal looking right about now? In saying that Green is a great young defenceman so well done by Washington, but that's an awful lot of $. It's a fantastic signing for the Caps now. People don't realize that Green is only 22 years old and this was only his 2nd full season in the NHL. He's an unbelievable skater, has a great shot and top end, elite level offensive ability. Defensively the Caps seemed to get better and Green got better with them. As a rookie he was -18 his first 90 games or so and then +6 last season playing a full 82 games. Of the young blueliners in the league today, Green would be at the top of my want list. The problem I see the Caps having is resigning him when he's in his prime at 26 and his contract is up. Konnan511 1,736 Report post Posted July 1, 2008 (edited) Great signing, Green has been one of my favorite Defence Men ever since he entered the league, even got his Jersey-T a few years ago. He'll be up for the Norris in two or three years if not next year. Edited July 1, 2008 by Konnan511

He finished 7th this year in the voting so i'd say you may be onto something there. youngest dman to lead the league in goals since Paul Coffey

I haven`t really payed to much attention to him but is he actually worth that much? By the fourth year, this guy will be grossly underpaid. In my mind, this is exactly what this kid is worth. I watched a fair bit of Capitals hockey this winter and this guy is easily the most exciting defenseman in the league. His stickhandling and skating are phenomenal. He needs to work on his defensive play, but that'll come. Considering that Olesz got $3.1M/year this is a steal.
