I didn't see a thread that specifically dealt with this but maybe I missed it.... These are some decent veteran UFA forwards still available that I wouldn't mind seeing wear the winged wheel, whaddya think? most would only require a 1-2 year deal most likely.

bobby holik (playoff veteran, strong on the puck, another big body, better than bert IMO)

mark recchi (can still burry it and also has good playoff experience)

owen nolan (always had a good shot, could use on the PP)

michael peca (still has some wheels, good faceoffs, strong 2-way player)

brian smolinski (a little lower end but still a good player)

I really like Brian Smolinski, on the fourth line that is.

I didn't think he was available....

Nolan has turned down us trying to aquire him before because he wanted to stay put, I kinda think he is done.

No others on that list peak me.

How come kenny holland hasn't mentioned Owen Nolan, as stated above.. perfect fit now when drake retires!

i'd love to see owen nolan here, i've always liked his style and i think he'd be a good fit on our pp.

Kenny tried to aqquire him at the 06-07 trade deadline but he Owen vetoed the trade due to his wife being pregnant at the time and not wishing to put stress under her. The fact that Kenny didnt try to sign him as a FA last offseason indicates to me that either Kenny dosent want him or Owen dosent want to come here. Owen has had more than once chance to sign with Detroit and hasent.

I'd rather see us skipping old farts and bringing young players.

we have enough leadership and enough playoff experience in our

roster. it's better to build on youth for the sake of our future.

of all those above listed players only Holik makes sense. Nolan

and Peca... Jesus... don't even mention this...
