chrisdetroit 189 Report post Posted July 5, 2008 Ok, everybody knows that we are now the team to beat but look at our competition: San Jose got weaker when they lost Campbell and tried to plug the gap with Boyle and Old Man Blake. Plus, they have a new rookie coach. I don't see them as a big threat. Lots of talent but I can't see Todd turning around the underachievers in his first year Dallas added Brunstrum and our old buddy Avery. They could be a threat if headcase Turco ever gets his act together. Aneheim got back Nieds and dumped Bert. They also added Bergeron. 28th in the league in scoring last year and they did nothing to improve it. If Selanne doesn't play, don't look for them to contend. Chicago - our nemesis picked up Huet and Brian Campbell. They have a way to go but they could be the next Pittsburgh Others - Colorado, Minny, Vancouver, Nashville... not top teams In the East...well it's the east; Rangers, Pens got weaker. Last place lightning got better, not much change elsewhere.
GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted July 5, 2008 On paper the Wings are the best team in the league, but as we've found out in the past, that means nothing. The regular season won't answer any questions either. With the Wings it's all going to come down to one thing, and that's the playoffs. Until then we'll just argue over meaningless stuff throughout the regular season.

10 Minute Misconduct 104 Report post Posted July 5, 2008 Even though San Jose lost Campbell they did improve with Boyle and Blake. Nomatter how old Blake may be. Although they did lose Rivet.

marcaractac 3,963 Report post Posted July 5, 2008 If Feds sticks around, I can see the Caps suprising a lot of people in the Easy. If Theo will hold up (he wont face us), and their kids learned a LOT in the playoffs last year. They'll certainly win their division again.

That headcase nearly kicked us out of the playoffs. He was stellar. They added Bergeron last year from NYI, then after numerous healthy scratches was traded to the wild for a 3rd rounder.. Pretty sure thats how it went. - Biggest losers are Buffalo and Toronto.. There managment is pretty much a 101 class on what not to do.

Yes, and also as pointed out by the original poster in this thread -the Wings are now the team to beat... meaning other teams will use them as a measuring stick and that the Red Wings will have to give it their all to defend the Cup. Good thing Babcock will not settle for anything less!
