stud_defenseman 1 Report post Posted July 18, 2008 Sorry if something like this has already been posted, I am very lazy and don't feel like looking back . If Filppula's contract goes to arbitration how much will he be awarded? On the other hand, if Holland get him signed before it goes to arbitration what will the contract look like? Feel free to provide your arguments to your numbers. My predictions. Arbitration: 2.5 million per season No-Arbitration: 8 million / 4 years. I don't think he is going to make near as much as some of the people on LGW seem to think.
egroen 384 Report post Posted July 18, 2008 I don't think Holland will let it go to arbitration, but if it does: $1.7 million awarded to Filppula Holland will sign him for $1.85 per year for 2 years. I think Filppula's camp will want a short term deal in this case, as his numbers are not that impressive yet.
eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted July 18, 2008 Filppula will probably see somewhere between $1.5m and $2m for a couple seasons...but only because the market this summer was so nuts. If it makes it to the hearing, I would expect Brooks Laich to come up as the comparable player, and Flip to see close to $2m. Realistically, Holland can probably help himself with Flip if he can get Franzen extended to a reasonable deal in the next two weeks; the arbitrator might have a difficult time justifying awarding more to Flip than Franzen's extension. YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted July 18, 2008 Filppula doesn't have too many legs to stand on it seems. Val Filppula: Age 24, 19G, 17A, 36P, +28, 78GP, ? Nigel Dawes: Age 23, 14G, 15A, 29P, +11, 61 GP, 587k Daniel Paille: Age 24, 19G, 16A, 35P, +14, 77GP, 1.1M Brooks Laich: Age 25, 21G, 16A, 37P, -3, 82GP, 2.0M Matt Stajan: Age 24, 16G, 17A, 33P, -11, 82GP, 1.75M Brooks Laich is most comparable at around 2M, but that was on a 3 year contract. I'm guessing something in the neighborhood of 2.0-2.3 if we sign him for 4 years or more, and something in the neighborhood of 1.6-1.9 if we sign him to the 2 year deal, with or without arbitration. danijel 0 Report post Posted July 18, 2008 (edited) fils shouldn't make more than $1.5mil per year. his skills need to translate to more production on the ice before he makes the big bucks. approximately 200 gms played (including playoffs) and he only has 70 pts. i'm not saying he stinks, i'm just saying he needs to have a breakout season just like everyone else before making big money. you shouldn't get paid for what you could potentially do in the next five years. edit: btw, filppula was +16 last season not +28 Edited July 18, 2008 by danijel

How isn't Daniel Paille more comparable? 19:19, 17:16, 36:35, +16/+9, 78:82? Edited... Paille was +9, not +14, according to the NHL's website.
