btw I studied Russian language / history at universityfor years

the reason most of these people identify themself with russia now is probably because they grew up having to identify themselves as nationality soviet (and not for example ukrainian or Khazakhstan or Georgian) since the soviet governments disapproved of nationalistic movements and tendencies

its still in their minds I suppose
