I really like this signing. I watched him play a few times in Atlanta and he has some potential.

My wish is that when he does get called up to play with the Wings he gets top line minutes.

It's always bothered me when coaches bring up an offensive player and then shove them on the 4th line, for 6 minutes a game, and lament on how they're displeased with their offensive output.

Stick him with Dats or Zetts for a game and see how he does. He can obviously finish in the AHL. Why not see what he can do with real talent in the NHL?

The two bolded phrases do not go together.

I checked him out on Youtube, I found that he seems to slip through the cracks! Kind of like one of those guys that rocks you to sleep then strikes! IF HE DOES play with us next year he could do somethings. I say that because he can receive a pass and make a strong move to the goal. The goals I saw on youtube he top shelved them, and that is saying something now days! There was something on youtube that said he was 5-9 117lbs. I find 117 pounds not to be correct, that would make him a toothpick. I'm think he is probably in the neighborhood of 180/190. This guy will bring some much needed depth and experience to GR!!

Says who?

There have been plenty of players that were called up who got top line minutes - Joe Pavelski and Andrew Brunnette come to mind.

You obviously only read what you wanted to read. My argument is that if you're going to call up an AHL scoring machine, what's the point of sitting him on the 4th line.

Give him a shot with the big line and see what happens. We all know we're going to make the playoffs and probably the President's Trophy again. What does it hurt to give an AHL scoring champ a couple of games with Dats or Zetts?

Maybe it works, maybe it doesn't. But who are you, or anyone else to say, that it should never happen?

I know this isn't my argument, however, if I could butt my pretty little nose in here a bit....

I understand where you're coming from and I don't consider it a bad idea (in fact, last year I wanted to see Kopecky on the top line with Datsyuk and Homer, even if only for experimentation's sake), but its just not something the Wings tend to do. Its all about working your way to the top. You could be the greatest AHL player and be called up, but you're going to get fourth line minutes and do a fourth liner's job to prove that you can be put into any situation and excel in it. I don't always agree with it, but it seems to be the way it is.

Man, Grand Rapids could be looking at a good season. They needed a couple bona-fide scores and they ended up with Francis Pare, Ville Leino, and Darren Haydar. All of which who have been 1st or 2nd in scoring in their respective leagues for a season. That is assuming that someone won't end up in Detroit.

They have no reason to have a mediocre season again. Pare, Leino, Haydar, Ericcson, Howard, possibly Helm, hopefully Lilja (wishful thinking?), Larsson, Quincey, Meech are all great players.

There are plenty of reasons that GR can have a mediocre season again..

- Haydar is the only proven scorer.. No one else on the roster has proven anything

- No veteran leadership to speak of

- Our potential top D-Man had like a -20 something.

- Howard hasn't been the goalie we expected very inconsistant. Berekhoel sucks ass.

- New Coach.

- Very Young Team.

- Alot of new faces.

- Limited Chemistry.

Quincey,Meech,Lilja wont be in GR, wishful thinking though.

judging by the quote at the bottom of the article (talking about being in the Northern Conference), he's obviously expecting to spend the majority of his time in the AHL.

it's a good depth move though. that grand rapids roster is very skilled, but VERY young.

at least he won't have any issues getting lost when the play Anaheims farm team (you'll either get this bad joke or you wont)

I unfortunately get it. lol Farm team... Iowa Chops.. pigs...

Lol Iowa Chops.. what kind of name is that? I'm gonna love seeing them play Rockford. Pig on Pig action!

I hate that the Quad City Flames are not in the same division as the Griffins. We only get to see them twice or thrice a season. :/

Here is a thought and call it dumb if it is, but do you think they are trying to boost up GR to see what Howard can do with a good team in front of him, he did good last year with a weaker team in front of him.

They appear to have signed and picked up so offensive talent, the D should be solid.

Any thoughts?

GR hasn't done much of anything.

Haydar and Pare are the only ones..

Haydar is proven, But so was Carl and Mark and there both gone.

Pare is supposed to be a scorer, But hasn't faced this lvl of competition..

Defense, We are minus Stafford/Ference, And added no-one.

It's a very young, in-experienced team, No leadership to speak of. If anything I'd hope they'd keep Jimmy with the big squad, because being down in GR will be a bumpy road for him again.
