Even if they don't, his contract is up after this season and they had a chance to nab a solid goalie. They paid a little too much for Huet but other than that, it wasn't really stupid. From what I heard on NHL Home Ice (XM Radio) Chicago can place Khabby on waivers, and when nobody takes his 6.7 mill salary, he can be sent to the AHL, where the money is off the books. If the Hawks call him back up, he will have to go through waivers again, but a team could claim Khabby for half of his salary, and the Hawks pay the other half.
