I'm sorry, but there is absolutely no chance Z signs for even the top end of what you're suggesting. While I can fully see Holland getting the "go-ahead" from Lids to have Z make more than him, I can also see Z taking a matching long-term (around 7 years) deal to what Lids is currently making ($7.45 million).

Total signing: 7 years/$52.15 million.........and that's a steal.

I agree on the salary, but I think in order for Z to agree to this Holland is going to have to up the year total in order to balance things off. If Holland gives 7 or even 8 years, Lids-type money becomes more realistic.

Not likely. If they are willing to pay Hossa 7.45 mil, they aren't going to ask Z to take 6.7 mil. Hank will go somewhere in the neighborhood of $8mil and that will be with Lidstrom's blessing. Mule will go for about $4-5 mil depending on what he does this season. Rex will get 2-3 again depending on what he does this year. Sammy about the same, Kopy $1.5 and Hossa will be the odd man out.

Cheli, DMac and Conklin will not be back.

The only way this doesn't happen is if the Salary Cap soars or (God forbid) there is a significant injury to somebody.

Once again people forget the Lidstrom rule of salary.... Lids took less money to stay with Detroit, but nobody makes more than Nick, thats why Hossa was signed for 7.45 mill. They could however stagger some of the money down the line of Zetts deal, provided Lidstrom retires somewhere down the line (That thought scares me)

It is absolutely not allowed to do something like that. Any/All player salaries must count against the cap.
