egroen 384 Report post Posted October 17, 2008 (edited) Lidstrom was also quoted last year in a swedish newspaper stating he'd play for a ridiculously low salary (seems like he said 35k per year but I may be off on that one). I'm wondering if he wouldn't be willing to sign for 5-6 million per year, which would allow Kenny to re-sign Franzen and Hossa. I could see him doing that. Yzerman did it at the end of his career so the precedence has been set. I think Lidstrom will sign one-year deals at hefty discounts following his current contract, but that does not help us for next year in trying to get everyone under the cap.\, much like Yzerman did. How's this for a scenario? Zetterberg and/or Hossa signs a one-year deal for next year at a discount to ensure we can get everyone under the cap, and then a more lucrative long term deal the following year with Lidstrom's new salary taken into account? Voila, no tagging issues. Will it happen? Probably not... awfully risky for the player, but it is a way to get around the cap.
