Icesurfer 75 Report post Posted October 18, 2008 Because of the economic crisis it is very possible that the salary cap may decrease next year. CLICK HERE FOR STORY If the cap should decrease the Wings would still probably have enough room to use Hossa's salary to re-sign Z and Franzen. Hudler (although restricted FA) and Sammy may be SOL. Some of the older players like Draper, Maltby and Chelios would probably be gone and youngster like Leino, Helm, Abdelkader and Ericsson would probably be on the regular roster. And, of course, no chance to re-sign Hossa.

Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted October 18, 2008 All the players that are signed for the next couple years are signed with today's salary cap in mind. Those players are still going to be making that next year, even if the cap goes down. All the free agents next year would be getting shafted, because a) they're going to want to be paid with the same scale as everyone else and b) the league overall will have less money to spend on all the free agents which means more folks migrating to the khl. toby91_ca 620 Report post Posted October 18, 2008 The value of the Cdn dollar has decrease by about 15% in the past year, I think that will have a real impact on the cap, before you even consider otehr economic factors.
