RedWingsFanatic 4 Report post Posted November 3, 2008 Well, the first two periods were fantastic. The third period was shaky, but Ozzie played very well and we hung in there. It was a different sort of win tonight for the Wings, one that I think will help them a great deal. The Wings finish the very tough road trip 3-1-1, bringing their record to 8-2-2. I'd wager to say that's pretty darn good. I really think we're going to see a much improved team in November and beyond. Still some things to figure out, but tonight was a step in the right direction. Enjoy (not really) the week without any games, everybody. See you back here on Saturday for the Devils. BlueMonk 102 Report post Posted November 3, 2008 That was much better. Good PK, good defensive effort.
RedWingsFanatic 4 Report post Posted November 3, 2008 Jiri Hudler might be the only player in the league under 6 feet who can be one of his team's most skilled players, get two assists in a single game by forechecking and dishing the puck to teammates who score, while playing for a coach whose primary stated values are hard work and skill, yet he still gets demoted during the game to the fourth line. Babcock loves Hudler much. Tell me about it. You have to feel bad for the guy. He does nothing but compete and produce, yet still can't crack through that Samuelsson ceiling. It's really quite bizarre. I also thought it was strange how Babs broke up Hudler/Draper/Cleary after they were playing so well together. I was looking forward to watching those three develop chemistry over the course of a few games.
ben_usmc 253 Report post Posted November 3, 2008 keep Meech in, the grind line didn't look bad. Although with such little use and no real banging still see no need in DMAC, either Downey and Abby should take DMAC and Maltby. Or even just Abby for DMAC. Pretty solid game though
SuperNovaXll 124 Report post Posted November 3, 2008 The Good - Ozzie played very very well. - Much better D - 4th line wasnt a total joke - No where near as many turn overs this game - Great PK - Great PP The Bad - We made that game alot closer then it should have been - We didnt look that great in the 3rd - Took to many penalties The Ugly - Stil cant get over that Kronwall "hold" Well anyway a win is a win. Now got some time off...alot of time off.
The Mule 0 Report post Posted November 3, 2008 I know we just game off of a grueling road trip, but this is going to be a very slow week with nothing to tide me over until Saturday when we face the Devils.
DyingAlive 27 Report post Posted November 3, 2008 Good win by the Wings. We needed that one to get ourselves headed back in the right direction. Would have liked to see a 2 goal win or even a game with less than 20 million penalties against. I agree, that the "hold" on Kronwall was completely phantom. Go Wings! T.Low 1,011 Report post Posted November 3, 2008 Maltby had a great game. Saw one shift were his forechecking lead directly to a turn over and a Wings SOG, then a good solid hit caused another turn over. He had jump tonite. Praise be to Malts. Hossa is an animal. He forechecks like a possesed beast. He's fast. He leads by example. Luv him here. Filps had a good game. Zetterberg had a serious case of the WInged Wheel tonite; he was flat out flying. Puck possession tonite. Turn overs were way down. Go Wings. Muley, what did you do to get banned?

I thought a lot of the calls on both sides were weak. Maltby's rub out of Mitchell into the boards was a weak call. Numbers smumbers, it was weak.
T.Low 1,011 Report post Posted November 3, 2008 Hello-ooooh! All you midwest guys go to bed already? HAh, its barely 10:00 out here. All those Seattle guys are driving right by my house on their way home tonite, probably right about now. See ya next week.

The Mule 0 Report post Posted November 3, 2008 So I noticed the wings don't play to next Saturday? Any reason why they have such a long break? Sorry if this was discussed already, I was just curious. My best guess would be do to a long west coast trip, they have a little break? Hmm. Sounds like the RangersHF boards. I'd take a look, but I'm perma banned from all of HFBoards. Cern 0 Report post Posted November 3, 2008 Was at the game tonight as I've mentioned ad infintum. Sure enough, another 3-2 win. The pattern is preserved. -Sweet fight by McCarty early in the game, really seemed to charge the team for the first period and a bit. -Zetterberg was on fire -Special teams were spot on. Thank God, or we probably would have gotten raped with all the penalties. Thankfully the refs did a lot of stuff in our favour, including pretty much all the calls leading to that 5-on-3 for that one goal. -Great tight defense for the first half of the game, exactly what it should be. Fell apart in the third period there, thankfully it didn't derail to the point of losing the game. and YAY, GOT AUTOGRAPHS! The teams all filed into a bus around the back of the arena, McCarty and Filpulla came out to sign stuff and get photos taken.
YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted November 3, 2008 Outside of the incredible number of soft calls in this game, I only have one problem overall. What the f*** was with Babcock taking Hudler off of the third line in the third period of the game? Hudler made several great defensive plays during the game, came up with two assists, and was even in +/-, the best you can possibly be with no even strength or short handed goals scored. So why the f*** does he get demoted in favor of Kopecky who, despite having a good game by his standards, has never proved to be anything better than an average 3rd/4th liner? Vladiator 116 Report post Posted November 3, 2008 Wow, Ozzie was the Ozzie he was last year. The D played tight and Hossa is becoming my favorite player on this team. Ouch, gotta wait a whole week without a Wings game.

I don't get it and it is pissing me off. The love for Samuelsson and the hate for Hudler is leaving me completely confounded.
