Guest 4051RedWings1393 Report post Posted November 5, 2008 No way in hell Babcock should put Flippula with Cleary. Hossa, Datsyuk, Holmstrom Flippula, Zetterberg, Franzen McCarty, Hudler, Kopecky Cleary, Draper, Maltby Mix and match the D.
chrisdetroit 189 Report post Posted November 5, 2008 If I were Holland, I wouldn't do anything beig or crazy. I would give Mac a few more games while Mule is resting up his knee to see how he does. If his play does not improve drastically, I would send him to GR (as he already has cleared waivers in October) and bring up Downey. If you are going to have your 12th forward playing 5 minutes per night, he might as well be able to win a fight should the need arise. The other option is if you send down Mac right now, you could bring up Leino to see how he does playing some top line minutes. If Leino plays well, maybe he looks to trade someone like Hudler for a draft pick. This would allow them to gain some cap space. Hudler seems to find his way into Babcock's doghouse all the time anyway, plus he is an RFA at year end too. Unfortunately, I think we are stuck with Maltby. I love what he has done in the past, and he can play 4th line minutes at a cheap price, but his skills are rapidly diminishing. No one will take him, and we can't waive him due to hometown discount/loyalty reasons. Lastly, continue to let Meech play. Wait a minute, you'd bring up Downey before Leino or Helm? Downey is going to do what to improve our Defense? Yea, that makes sense

GoWings1905 2,694 Report post Posted November 5, 2008 No way in hell Babcock should put Flippula with Cleary. Hossa, Datsyuk, Holmstrom Flippula, Zetterberg, Franzen McCarty, Hudler, Kopecky Cleary, Draper, Maltby Mix and match the D. No way in hell Dan Cleary plays on the fourth line with Kopecky and Mac on the third. Hudler isn't even a center either, so how would that work? Filppula will be back on the third line with Cleary when Franzen comes back. Where is Samuelsson in your great line combinations anyways? I hope you are kidding if you really think Mac or Kopecky should be dressing over Sammy.

South Dakota wings fan 7 Report post Posted November 5, 2008 Wait a minute, you'd bring up Downey before Leino or Helm? Downey is going to do what to improve our Defense? Yea, that makes sense Point taken, but I guess my point was that Mac is currently attempting to fill a role as a pseudo enforcer, and Downey can actually fill the role. If we make room for top line minutes some other way, I would be sure to bring up either Helm or Leino. Trust me, I would very much like to see them in the lineup right now. daniel1 32 Report post Posted November 5, 2008 YES!!!!!!!!! I think some people are losing the point on this one. facts are we're not Ken Holland and its not our decision to make. we're only stating what we would do if we were Kenny. it's pretend .... fantasy.... not real ...... people should just chill out and not get their panties in a twist about this. Hey, now here's a guy I could sit down and have a beer with! Everybody else take a chill-pill and wash it down with a healthy shot of don't-get-your-panties-in-a-knot. This is just for fun, nobody is insulting your mother here so try to have a little fun with the fantasy GM thing.

FireCaptain 563 Report post Posted November 5, 2008 If I were Holland? I would put my feet up on the desk, smoke a cigar, count my paycheck just for kicks. Check the standings, maybe call up other GMs for a little trash talk. Polish my Cup rings. Watch Judge Judy. I'd probably look at the stat line and give myself a big ol' pat on the back for that guy on top of the points list. Best. Answer. Ever. thread over - he can't be topped. miller76 463 Report post Posted November 6, 2008 Here is a link to a story about all 30 teams from espn, and how they are all doing early in the season still. http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/columns/stor...&id=3682659 Detroit Red Wings Dave Dye of The Detroit News had this over the weekend: "They've allowed four or more goals in five of their last eight games. In 82 games last season, they gave up four-or-more only 16 times. The Wings ranked No. 1 in the NHL in goals against (2.24 per game) and shots allowed (23.5) en route to the Stanley Cup. This season, they're 25th out of 30 teams in goals against (3.36) and 15th in shots allowed (29.5)." We will keep an eye on that, but I'm convinced it's just some early-season boredom. Marian Hossa looks great so far. As the Wings go along, I think they'll have the chance to be not just the best team in hockey but also the best team in all of professional sports. I know that is impossible to quantify, but I just did.
