When Babs was a rookie, he went to the friggin finals. I always see you shooting down Todd Mclennen, a rookie coach is entirely capable of winning a cup. Wasnt Caryle a rookie when he won? Plus, he's got enough leaders in that room that he doesnt need to say a ton, he just plays his system, and it obviously works. Not that I believe they can beat us, but there capable of it. Clowe, Thornton, Cheechoo, Marleau, Michalek, Setoguchi, and Pavelski. Boyle and Blake on the back end, I'm not sold on Nabakov, but he's good enough. If you honestly dont fear San Jose, even just a little, you havent been paying attention.

only blak, boyle, and the coaching staff are different from the team last year, the wings added hossa which is pretty much equal to boyle and blake, don't forget Ron Wilson still is a good coach and MacClellan hasn't shown that he's any bit better.

What is the GA against for all across the league?

Is it possible that every team is allowing more goals than last year?

Wouldn't be suprised to see that, but even if so, it's apparently not enough with the new goalie regulations coming next year and what not. <_<

I wouldn't be surprised to find out there are more goals being scored this season either. Especially since it's been Bettman's M.O. for a while now. It seems that no lead if safe in the NHL anymore and from what I heard, it's only going to get worse with the new goalie equipment regulations changing.

I think people rely too heavily on statistics to make their judgment. It's obvious by watching the games what the problem is here. The Wings defense is simply being caught flat footed and slow, numerous times. Forwards aren't doing their jobs defensively enough, and neither are the defense, whose job it is first and foremost. The Wings should have more points, but their defensive lapses (mental mistakes mostly) have resulted in more reg. and OT losses than they should have had, worst of all, to teams that they would most likely face in the playoffs. One didn't even need to see the statistic of last year compared to this year in GF/GA to tell the Wings are giving up far more goals than they should be.

Adding 2 top 4 defenceman to a defence that always needed more stability is huge. We didnt need Hossa, but we got him. San Jose needed solid defenceman, and they adressed that need big time. Blake has 19 points and Boyle has 21. They've both also been solid defensively. McClellan hasnt shown he's any better? The best start in franchise history isnt better? Getting production from guys like Clowe, Marleau and Setoguchi who coming into the season people thought were 2nd or 3rd liners, and are producing like top line talent. McClennan has had a huge impact on this team. He's a much better coach then Wilson, Wilson is all about hard work, McClennan can get his stars playing up to their potential, that's what San Jose has lacked since 03.

0.75 more goals against per game could mean the difference between playing San Jose on the road in game 7 of the conference final or playing them at home.

I'm not going to panic but it should be worked on before it gets out of hand.

14 goals in 21 games is 66.66666666666% more goals per game

The problem with Ron Wilson was the players just tuned him out, it happens to him everywhere he's coached....

Pretty much a perfect post right there.

Yeah our powerplay has really struggled lately.

Wait a minute....

Yeah. I'm sure everything McLellan taught the Wings is completely forgotten. I'm sure we're not using his ideas and system for our powerplay this season, considering it was terrible last season and we've had so much player turnover that all of our new players are likely unfamiliar with McLellan's old system.

San Jose is the real deal this year - talk to Sharks fans. They have had plenty of winning streaks, but they are beating teams by a much larger goal differential than they ever have. Boyle has been a godsend and Blake is playing out of his mind. Vlasic is growing into a legitimate premier defenseman and Erhoff isn't too bad either. Marleau has done a complete 180, Setoguchi has had another year to improve and they have talent on all four lines. Cheechoo never starts playing well until halfway through the season. I think it will be a montrous battle between the Wings and Sharks for the WCF.

The Wings in 97 had choked in the playoffs for a few years prior.
