digitaljohn88 4 Report post Posted December 13, 2008 Thats a new one. If Johnson goes down the caps are f***ed. I'd actually bet that he could do alright, if he's a reasonably good goaltender in the first place and only has to play 5-10 minutes. Probably have a SV% around .750 though. arnoldbuck 0 Report post Posted December 13, 2008 story like this happened a few years back with the Canucks. They called a guy from the UBC Thunderbirds. I think Auld was the backup filling-in (dont quote me) and I remember at one point he took a shot and fell to the ice. Immediatley the camera went to this kid sitting on the Canuck bench. His eyes were wide like, OMFG! (yes I just said omfg) looking around. In any case, he didnt end up getting in, but still cool.

selkie 10 Report post Posted December 15, 2008 I hope Brett Leonhardt got to keep his jersey. This kind of thing happens every so often in the minors, and it's funny how many Sunbelt towns manage to locate some local dentist or accountant who sat the bench for a second tier juniors team back in the day, and ended up down there in a quest for more white collar job opportunities and better weather. IIRC, the Pensacola Ice Pilots super-emergency back-up goalie was some sort of physical therapist or orthopedic surgeon.
MacK_Attack 108 Report post Posted December 15, 2008 (edited) I hope Brett Leonhardt got to keep his jersey. When the Leafs had their farm club in Newfoundland, they had a local beer league goalie who was the fill-in when a goalie for either the Baby Leafs or the visiting team went down in the morning skate or the warm-up. I believe his name was Dennis Lake. It's not an uncommon thing in the minors, fairly rare in the NHL, though. The Oilers had a U of Alberta Golden Bear on the bench last year, I think, or maybe the year before. Edited December 15, 2008 by MacK_Attack
