The x-rays were negative. http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/20...elined_wit.html Babcock seems to think he will be back soon. [edit] I guess I missed the 2nd post... oops. GMRwings1983 8,794 Report post Posted December 27, 2008 since when is an injury to your best player considered good luck? P.S. The whole mindfly bashing is getting old, and unwarranted IMO I agree. Reading over his post, he didn't say anything other than the obvious. Lidstrom has had more injuries of late than we've ever come to expect of him.
thedisappearer 291 Report post Posted December 27, 2008 since when is an injury to your best player considered good luck? As I bolded in the post you quoted (but I will bold again) when it happens IN THE PRESEASON. Injuries happen. That is a fact. They can happen in the preseason (good luck) or during the regualr season (bad luck) or even the playoffs (s***ty luck). It can be a short term injury, like the rest of a game (good luck) or it can take weeks or even months to recover from (bad luck). It is good luck that Lids has been injured twice so far this season, but only missed two periods.

96warrior 11 Report post Posted December 27, 2008 From MLIVE: Red Wings' Nicklas Lidstrom will miss Colordao game by Ansar Khan Saturday December 27, 2008, 2:40 PM Update from the morning skate in Denver: Wings captain Nicklas Lidstrom isn't playing tonight against Colorado because his left ankle still is swollen and sore. X-rays during Friday's game in Nashville revealed no break, but it might require further testing once the swelling subsides. "It's about the same as last night,'' Lidstrom said."Still swollen, can't really move my foot the way I would have to in my skates. Day off tomorrow will help.'' There was no word on who will replace Lidstrom, as Chris Chelios said he didn't know yet if he or Derek Meech would be inserted into the lineup. It was an optional skate, no coaches attended it. Ty Conklin is starting in goal again, as trainers are being extra cautious with Chris Osgood's strained groin. Osgood said he would know on Monday whether he's playing Tuesday at home against Chicago. They haven't made it official, but it's safe to assume Conklin will start in the Winter Classic on Thursday, given Osgood's injury. They certainly wouldn't want to put Osgood out there in the cold this soon after an injury like this.
Guest mindfly Report post Posted December 27, 2008 Damn .. what do you guys think, a sore ankle is usually some days off isn't it.. so he could miss the winter classic?

thedisappearer 291 Report post Posted December 27, 2008 Damn .. what do you guys think, a sore ankle is usually some days off isn't it.. so he could miss the winter classic? He could, but I doubt it myself. It sounds more like if this was the playoffs, he'd be in. But it's not, so he's getting extra rest. I think Lids will sit out today, maybe Tuesday as well, but to miss the WC, he'd have to be held at gunpoint. Or, you know, seriously injured.
Guest mindfly Report post Posted December 27, 2008 Really don't like this: When Chris Chelios suffered a fractured tibia while blocking a shot in the preseason, initial X-rays didn't reveal the injury. “He had to do another (test) in Detroit, and it showed the fracture he had,” Lidstrom said. “I think you just want to make sure nothing is there. “I can’t even remember the last time I had an injury like this. You always get hit in the foot with pucks, but it hit that spot where it swelled right away, and I can’t really tighten my skate on it. I don’t know how long it will be, really.”

savaking72 0 Report post Posted December 28, 2008 Looks like his knee is worse than thought, perhaps. I can remember last February when we lost Nick. Didn't we only win one game that month? This might be a scary time. I hope the rest of the D can pull it togather. I missed last nights game versus the Aves, so I don't have any info on what's going on. Hopefully he can get better real soon.

Nick was injured almost at the end of that month and only missed like 6 games, including a few into March (2-3-1 I believe was the record without him throughout his injury, but an asterisk there). The real problem was the boys sitting on their asses just like they are now. Then the injuries to just about the entire defense (not just Nick) hampered the team some more. I'm pretty sure Cleary, Chelios and I think Rafalski were injured during that same time last season though. I can't remember for sure who all was injured, but I remember it was multiple players, not just Lids.
55fan 5,133 Report post Posted December 29, 2008 I'm pretty sure Cleary, Chelios and I think Rafalski were injured during that same time last season though. I can't remember for sure who all was injured, but I remember it was multiple players, not just Lids. As I recall, it was Cleary, Hasek, Lids, Raff, Kronner. We didn't have Stuart yet, so there was a game where our D was: Cheli-Lilja Lebda-Meech Ericsson-(someone) Cheli was injured in that game, and then they called up Stafford for a game. Kronner came back after that and Stafford was sent back to GR. Darned if I can remember who that someone was. Oh, this is going to bug me....

96warrior 11 Report post Posted December 29, 2008 Update on Lidstrom from MLIVE: Update from Monday's practice: Wings captain Nicklas Lidstrom did not practice because his left ankle is still swollen and hasn't improved. An MRI Monday confirmed there is no break, however. Lidstrom said he's doubtful for Tuesday's game against the Blackhawks, but he's still hoping to play in Thursday's Winter Classic at Wrigley Field. Vincanni 1 Report post Posted December 30, 2008 Can't be too upset about him missing tonight's game with the Winter Classic pending further on in the week. Also beats the heck out of warm weather postponing the game (thank god that ended), granted that would take him a step closer to 100%.
