Statts 4 Report post Posted December 31, 2008 (edited) CHICAGO -- Leave it to the Detroit Red Wings to add a touch of class to a big event. Wings GM Ken Holland and assistant GM Jim Nill surprised Scotty Bowman with his 2008 Stanley Cup ring before Detroit's practice Wednesday. The impromptu presentation was made right at home plate of Wrigley Field. "That was pretty special, I didn't expect that," said Bowman, who left the Wings this past summer and joined the Blackhawks as a senior adviser. "It's a beautiful ring and, obviously, it means a lot to me." Holland and Nill figured Wrigley would be a nice setting for the presentation. "We knew we would see him here, so we figured, what a great time to do it," Nill said. "He's got his whole family here. He's been a big part of our success. It's a neat thing to do. "He was surprised," Nill added. "It's a beautiful ring, and he deserves it." Further proof that the Red Wings are the classiest organization in sports. Opie 308 Report post Posted January 2, 2009 Bowman and Bill Russell will have to talk shop about how to fit the extra ring, after all they are the only two people in the history of pro sports (In the USA) to boast 11 championships correct?

Opie 308 Report post Posted January 2, 2009 (edited) Doesn't Phil Jackson have 11 as well? 10 last I knew!?!? 9 coach 1 player, the Knicks won in 1970 as well but he was not active due to Spinal surgery, not sure if he got the ring or not though. EDIT: His Wiki has 11 championships so apparently he was part the 1970 team Edited January 2, 2009 by Opie
