Andy Pred 48 337 Report post Posted January 23, 2009 If the Wings buy out any players contract, does it still count against the cap for the season or remainder of the players contract. ie; said player has a 3 yr deal still remaining @ $1.5m per year. does the org take a 1 year hit at $4.5m or do they get hit for the $1.5m for season's 09-10,10-11 and 11-12? Just thought that this may be a option for them. Many thanks Andy.
drwscc 212 Report post Posted January 23, 2009 I don't think the buyouts work anymore. I thought they were a one time thing for the 1st season back after the lockout.
ComradeWasabi 109 Report post Posted January 23, 2009 Buyouts are still valid. Ottawa bought Emery out of his contract last summer.
MacK_Attack 108 Report post Posted January 23, 2009 Teams have the option of taking the 2/3 cap hit spread out over twice the length of the remaining contract, or the 2/3 for just the length of the contract. Either way, it counts against the cap.
