bivan01 0 Report post Posted January 28, 2009 Somebody needs to step up and mess him up. What a better way to get the crowd into it even more than we will be by taking him by putting a huge check on him his first time on the ice. Then when he gets up just pummel him like McCarty did and make him turtle. DET/SJ is giong to be a good rivalry this year because they are two powerhouses. I call it setting the tone of the game and using home ice advantage. Part of being an athlete is giving the fans what they want and we want Claude to get the pi$$ beat out of him. Somebody step up, I don't care if it is McCarty, Holmstrom, Chelly, Lilja, Lebda or Kronwall. All I am saying is that we need to set the tone...early and often. I don't think you'd want to see either Lebda or Chelios challenge Claude to a straight up fight. I hope if Mac does engage claude again, he handles himself better than he did last time. Seeing another team's star player hang in there with our enforcer was embarassing! Hopefully, if one of our guys go after Claude again, they blindside him so they can win;)
Guest micah Report post Posted January 28, 2009 Oh man, you just don't get the point, obviously, so I'm done with you. No, I don't, I'm sorry. If his carreer ended today, it would end on a high note. Back in the NHL as an old man who hadn't been playing for a few years. That's a great way to go out, agreed?
Electrophile 3,554 Report post Posted January 28, 2009 If Claude wants to get stupid and go after one of our guys to show the world he still has brass balls, then one of our guys should knock his teeth down his throat. Otherwise, leave him the hell alone. As has been brought up numerous times in numerous game threads, we don't have an "enforcer" per se on our team. If Darren is healthy enough to play by then, I'm sure Babcock will put him for preventitive reasons, but if he's not in the lineup, we'd look pretty stupid going after the guy for no reason other than the fact he's a complete douchebag toolbox. While that's a reason to beat the holy snot out of him, it's not necessarily a good reason.
SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted January 29, 2009 Come on guys, let's be honest here. Of course there was bad blood between Detroit and Lemieux/Colorado in the late 90s. But in 1999 when Coloardo eliminated Detroit, nothing bad/bloody happened between Lemieux and the Wings. Not after when he had stints in New Jersey, Phoenix, and Dallas. Do you honestly believe that something dramatic will happen now with Lemieux in "targeting" Wings 11 years later when nothing has really happened regarding that since 1998? I know he's easy to hate, and I could definitely be wrong, but if you are expecting crazy stuff to go down with this when the Sharks come to town are going to be disappointed I think. bivan01 0 Report post Posted January 29, 2009 Now we have an enforcer in Downey. Does his call up change any of your opinions about no one being able to step up to Claude? If you are going to the game just be prepared to start chanting, DOWNEY, DOWNEY, DOWNEY!

If you are going to the game just be prepared to start chanting, DOWNEY, DOWNEY, DOWNEY! I highly doubt people are afraid of standing up to Lemieux. These are big boys, professionals. They know how to take care of themselves. Never say never of course but having Downey in or out of the lineup will probably not change much in regards to Lemieux himself when San Jose comes over soon. I'm not holding my breath for any gigantic fireworks or a game to go out of control compared to your ordinary regular season game.
