skacore 2 Report post Posted January 30, 2009 The last 6 minutes of the 2nd period were entertaining. The other 54 minutes of the game? Not so much. I thought the last 10 minutes looked like a regular Red Wings hockey game but yeah, for me the entire 2nd period and last half of the 1st were just great. I'll take an extremely entertaining half of a game, combined with a dull half of a game, and just call it an exciting game. Much better than usual.
Hockeytown Red Wings 245 Report post Posted January 30, 2009 I'm new to the site.. not new to being a fan of the Wings. And I'm not entirely certain what your post was supposed to be telling me. I have faith that the team is going to turn around. Where's the problem? You're trying to be optimistic in a piss parade. It's best to get an umbrella and just chill. Z and D for the C 712 Report post Posted January 30, 2009 I may just be pissed off, but has anyone else noticed Franzen's work ethic like...over the course of the year? Seems pretty spotty to me. Some nights, he doesn't really seem all there. Franzen has a good shot and given a good situation he can score some great goals, but that's about it. He isn't very good with the puck. You're entirely correct.
Mike 0 Report post Posted January 30, 2009 I've noticed it - he started off the season strong but does not seem to be hustling out there. I actually posted I would rather lose Franzen than Hudler a few weeks ago. If this is what Franzen looks like in a contract year, then I don't want him back on the Wings. Either he is playing hurt or he just doesn't care. If he keep sthis up I will have no problem sending him off.
Statts 4 Report post Posted January 30, 2009 (edited) Not its a difference of 7 seconds that Kronwall was AHEAD of Lilja. Its a difference of about two minutes from what it should've been, i.e. Lilja with about 3 minutes on the PK with Kronwall on for 1. In case you haven't noticed, Lilja is FAR AND AWAY our 2nd best PKer. Theres a reason he averages 3:28 on the season to Kronwall's 2:40. When Stuart is out - our #3 Pker - Lilja should only get more time on the PK. Ok. The game was not lost in 2 minutes. But maybe Babs was giving Kronic a chance to show what he has to offer this team on the pk. Even if he did have a bad night, he must learn some how. better now than later. Considering his current salary he's a hell of a steal.
skacore 2 Report post Posted January 30, 2009 Completely. Down 3-0 after 20. Great second period. Disgraceful 3rd with no sign of a comeback. How could I possibly classify that as the most exciting game this season.. I can't. I guess to me it's not all about the Red Wings dominating the score board. I enjoy a good hockey game regardless of the score, as long as it's entertaining. This beats the hell out of the tradition 5-1 Red Wings win where everyone is just going through the motions, with no emotion.

Mike 0 Report post Posted January 30, 2009 Datsyuk, Homer, and Downey showed up. Most of the rest of the team took the night off. Simple as that. I'd give some credit to Hossa too. He had some nice plays out there tonight nd not to mention the first goal.
Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted January 30, 2009 Franzen isn't much of a playmaker (as can be observed by his large goals-assists ratio). If he isn't getting set up to let it go, he's not going to contribute much offensively. I can appreciate the role he has as a triggerman in this offense. I was more pumped up in the second period than any other time this season. But I'll take the W anyday. The third was quite a letdown after the second. If we had won, I'd be on board with you. Well, since we have Hossa, let's just keep him. Frazen, at this point, does not look like he is worth $3-4 million a year.

If we can get Franzen for 3 million, I'd be all over it. That is, at a short contract of 2-3 years. It would also depend on how much Hossa wants.

MTU_Huskies963 398 Report post Posted January 30, 2009 Why do I have feeling if they did want to implement reviews on goalie interference that we would be the only one to vote for it. I mean why would anyone else want to stop good goals by the wings from being disallowed.

YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted January 30, 2009 Ok. The game was not lost in 2 minutes. But maybe Babs was giving Kronic a chance to show what he has to offer this team on the pk. Even if he did have a bad night, he must learn some how. better now than later. Did I say the game was not lost in 2 minutes? No. I never said that. Although, considering we lost by 2 goals, and that Dallas scored their first 2 goals in less than 2 minutes - both of which were on the PP - then yeah, technically you could say the game was lost in 2 minutes. At any rate, the point remains that there is NO reason to choose the ice cold goaltender to start in back to back games. Or to put one of your least reliable defensive Dmen on the PK more often than you would your 2nd best PKer. Or to put the 2 worst offensive forwards on the roster out there on the ice more often than your 3rd best forward in the lineup tonight. If Babs had made different choices, at the very least statistically speaking we would've had a better chance of winning tonight.
skacore 2 Report post Posted January 30, 2009 You don't like games where we win 5-1? Oooookay. Do you watch the Red Wings because you like hockey? Or do you watch the Red Wings so you can call yourself a fan and have bragging rights when they win? Who cares if we win a regular season game if the game sucked. If a game sucked and the Wings win, the game still sucked. If the Wings lose but it was a good game, it was still a good game. Why does it matter? Just appreciate hockey for what it is. You can't go 82-0, I'd rather our losses be filled with emotion and out hit teams like the Stars 31-16.

YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted January 30, 2009 Well, since we have Hossa, let's just keep him. Frazen, at this point, does not look like he is worth $3-4 million a year. There is a third option.
