Could Kenny go the Z route for Hossa?

The past week has really put a lot in perspective for me.

It seems that having a good mix of old and young players works in more ways than just to balance out slow veteranship with fast inexperience. Signing prime players to long term contracts is good in the immediate future, but then you have a 6M cap hit when they're 37 years old. This is balanced with signing youth, whose contracts will get larger with every year instead of smaller, so in that last year they're getting paid 4-5M with only a 2M cap hit, which helps offset the veteran contract of a 6M cap hit.. Its all risky, but this further emphasizes the necessity of signing Hudler or Leino or some other young, high potential player to a multiyear increasing contract.

Are people just thinking about next year? Do you understand how nice its going to be 5 and 6 years from now when we're paying a spending a combined 19M on 3 guys 34 or older, and guys like Larsson, Helm, Emmerton, Abedlkader, Ericsson, and Kindl are worth 4 or 5 times what they're worth now?

Its a great idea to mortgage the future in order to secure ANOTHER superstar forward who hasn't put over the edge this season, and likely isn't to do so when our depth is further depleted.

Can someone point out why it would be a better idea to keep Hossa over Franzen? Franzen will probably be around 2 million cheaper, he's just as good defensively

Hossa is arguably the hardest backchecker on the team, I rarely even see Franzen in the defensive zone.

he's scored 22 goals to Hossa's 24, he fits in better on the powerplay.

Also has 11 assists to Hossa's 24. Powerplay? Hossa has 29 points, Frazen with 19.

Hossa is too much like Zetterberg, while Franzen, a big strong forward uses his body to make plays. We can't have a whole team of skinny fancy Europeans, we need some brute force goal scoring.

Hossa is a skinny fancy European? Hossa doesn't use his body to make plays? Do you watch the games? Or do you come on this board and repeat what you see people say? And for all this physical play people keep talking about, Franzen only has 12 more hits than Hossa. It seems as if Franzen is some sort of checking machine the way he is talked about.

And the main reason I would take Franzen over Hossa is, it's a lot harder to shut Franzen down then Hossa. It's a lot easier to stop people like Zetterberg and Hossa making fancy plays and passes, then stopping the Mule. Keep the MULE! Not to mention the fact Franzen just started getting good at the end of last season.

If it's so much easier to shut down Zetterberg and Hossa why do they have more points? Why are they two of the best two way players in the game? Why are they used on the PK and Franzen isn't? Why did they both end up with more points than Franzen in the playoffs last year?

Saying Franzen would be a better option is one thing, but to sit there and say Franzen is a better hockey player than Hossa is just outright dumb. I'd be perfectly fine signing Mule, I'm just not fine with not trading Flip to have a chance to lock up Hudler too, but that's a different thread.
