Need to get Hudler/Franzen signed long term.

Not another thread ... the best solution to this is :

1- Trade Flip ... give his contract Hudler ... You get to keep Hudler

2- Re-Sign Hossa

3- Let Franzen walk

4- Let Sammy walk

5- Make Helm and Leino starters

Now you keep Hudler and Hossa, and you still have room in the cap ... You've got 2 starters that will be part of your core including Hossa - Hudler - Datsyuk - Zetterberg - Holmstrom

What the lines would look like

Holmstrom - Datsyuk - Hossa

Leino - Zetterberg - Hudler

Cleary - Helm - Adkel

Maltby - Draper - Downey

Lidstrom Stuart

Rafalski Ericsson

Kronwall Lilja

I'm very happy with this solution. /thread

You have no hockey knowledge. You just proved it.

How exactly did I prove it? Some people here need to read the forum rules.

Flips, Franz, Hudler, Cleary; none of them guys have a role right now. There just tossed around like tennis balls trying to figure out what one can accommodate Hossa or Datsyuk on the second line. Thats one of the reasons are team isnt performing i believe. Them guys were second line players last year and felt apart of the team.

Agreed. Guys that were valuable contributors to last year's run are finding themselves without a clearly defined role, and their efforts are showing it. Without Hossa this year, I admit we would have a less explosive offense, but we would have these guys playing with the same units most of the season, and that goes a long way in terms of confidence. All 4 of the above mentioned players, Franzen, Filppula, Huder, and Cleary, have been bounced around between different line combinations, different positions on these lines, etc. Franzen and Hudler are putting up great numbers and are worthy of nice big contracts, but a lot of their numbers have come due to increased regular PP time, whereas Cleary and Filppula have only played on the PP when Zetterberg or Holmstrom have been out of the lineup. Cleary got his big contract, and only put up the same numbers as the year before, looks like Filppula will do the same, given his forced demotion and revolving-door cast of wingers (he's right at his assist total from last year already though). We need to focus on locking up the talent we drafted, give them time to develop, then stick with them instead of trying to rent players like Hossa, who, if he really wanted to stay would have signed for more years to begin with, he's just after the Cup, then he'll take his 401k, I mean, multi-year deal with a non-contender and make his millions.

...at this point Hudler will probably cost more or just as much as Franzen! So, get Franzen signed long term and let Hudler sign somewhere else. If he signs somewhere else for anywhere between 2.6 and 3.9 million, we WILL get a 1st and a 3rd round pick from that team. That there is more valuable than signing Hudler and letting Franzen walk. Hudler will more than likely get that 2.6 million. Get Franzen signed the front loaded way Zetterberg was, let Huds, McCarty, Chelios, Sammy walk and get Hossa signed to a similar Zetterberg contract. Must trade Filpulla in ANY scanario so we can get that $3 million off the books. Filpulla should get us a 2nd round pick. At the very least a 3rd.

...To me Hossa is just too dominant to let get away! The efforless way he scored his goals against St. Louis, especially the shootout goal, you cannot develop that kind of skill. Of course Hudler is also awesome at the shootout, but as I stated above, not signing Fanzen gets us nothing, not signing Hudler gets us (possibly) a 1st and a 3rd round pick in exchange. Nothing personal, just business...

Who did I conveniently forget about to add Neil? Hossa? There's no way we can afford him in my dream scenario (if we were to keep Hudler and Franzen). Flip? I made a point of saying that I'd like to see him traded as it gives us wiggle room, and the ability to have more depth and cap room. Aside from that, the only current forwards on our roster I left out were Kopecky, Downey, and Abdelkader, all of which I gave reasons for.

When was the last time the Red Wings brought up three unproven rookies all at the same time? Leino is going to bolt if he's not in the NHL next year (plus he's 25 years old), and Helm has been waiting for a helluva lot longer than Abdelkader. Also, to bring a rookie up at 21 is semi early for the 'Wings; they always let them mature a bit longer than other teams, and it seems to work. I just don't see Abdelkader being likely for next year.

I'm just sayin'...

First of all I re-read my post and could have phrased it better. Not a personal attack, (wasn't meant to be but it might have come off like that) and I am just frustrated with their situation.

I think we are going to see the Wings do a lot of things they would not have done in the past. They are going to be up against it cap-wise and (in my opinion) are going to have to make do with what they have as opposed to signing any other players. I would like to see Flip traded too because his number is a lot higher than I would like to see it.

Let's wait and see what Kenny's next move is and try and put the puzzle pieces together from there.
