FedorovGurl 2 Report post Posted February 15, 2009 He's a good player; but not the best by far. He's an okay captain; but whines way too much to garner respect. He seems like a good enough guy; but his personality (?) never comes through in interviews .. he spouts the usual BS, never says anything interesting/hilarious a la Ovechkin, Roenick, Datsyuk. But in the meantime, I do get sick of hearing about him. Is it his fault? Maybe not. But he could do something to actually earn the attention. Like grow up, grow some balls. So, until Sid the Kid becomes Sid the man ... grandma said it best. (see signature)

titanium2 867 Report post Posted February 15, 2009 There's just such a dissonance between the way he conducts himself on the ice and the way he presents himself to media. When he's with the media, he's cool, collected, and appears mature. When he's on the ice, somehow we notice it when he's talking to the officials too much. He's got that kind of ugly whiny face that really doesn't help him. It's as if any time he experiences any emotion on the ice he looks whiny. Sometimes I just wonder why Sid can only mesh with linemates such as Marian Hossa and Evgeni Malkin. Is it because others are not competent enough to play on Sid's line? Or is it because of things like him noticeably yelling at Brooks Orpik because he shot the puck on net? When that ESPN poll of biggest whiner came out and Sid won by a clear majority, I thought at that moment that it is becoming really difficult for Pens fans to defend him. Wingaling 0 Report post Posted February 15, 2009 (edited) Gary Bettman has done a great job in the past couple seasons bringing the NHL back; that said I dont understand his obsession with Sid the Kid. Yes he is a great hockey player, one of the best, but he (Bettman) has done everything but bl@w this guy(and im not sure he hasnt to be honest). What really bothers me is how he so disgustingly tryed to taint Datsyuk and Lidstrom for not going to the "Allstar Game". The whole Allstar game needs a serious re-vamp and copying NBA is retarted because its a completly different mindset. Im glad they didnt go this year, the skills comp was a joke and the mighty Ovechkin looked like a damn fool. I say hats off to Dats and Lids and Bettman F U. Electrophile 3,554 Report post Posted February 15, 2009 There should be a moratorium on all threads with the words "Sidney", "Crosby" or some combination thereof. For a board full of people that for the most part, can't stand him......we sure do spend a lot of time talking about him.
Kevvie 0 Report post Posted February 15, 2009 I didn't like Sindey before he made he made it to the NHL, and I don't like him now. Pre-NHL days, Don Cherry made a comment that Sid made a hot dog move. All of Halifax, of which Cole Harbour is a part, was up in arms defending him. Sid wasn't called a hot dog...he made a hot dog move. Nobody could see the difference. Then he makes it to the NHL, and it's nothing but hype for a kid that hasn't proven himself in the league. Dude's got skills, I'll grant that. Wearing a C on your shirt doesn't make a good captain, either. I think he's been built up too high, too quick for his own good. At some point, he's going to level off, and it'll be another story about what a shame it is that he didn't live up to his potential. Nobody knows what his potential is. His face is all over the place in ads and I think that people are just getting tired of seeing him. I think it's VS that shows the SCF clips in their ads and all they show is Pens highlights...that's a noodle-scratcher to me. His mom, aka Gary Bettman, also seems to have some sort of pro-Crosby agenda, like he's the one to save the NHL. I find this kinda weird, as Buttman is the one trying to destroy it. Long story made short - too much hype, too much exposure, too much inexperience.
TheOwl 77 Report post Posted February 15, 2009 Crosby is over-rated simply for the fact he needs good players around him. All you hear is they have no one to play with Crosby. Unlike Datysuk, Crosby doesn't make the people around him better.

I have to concur with that. He just has this perpetually pouty face, particularly when he's on the bench, as though he's always on the verge of tears. The captain (and the face of the league) at the very least should try and look more, I don't know, heroic? Confident? It's nitpicky, I know, but it's what I've seen.
