Conklin

Conklin is second in the league in shutouts, has been playing very well as of late and has played much better than osgood all season. Why don't the Wings just let him play, have osgood start every 5th game, Conklin has been the better goalie and has earned the top spot.

Because the Red Wings don't care about "the top spot", they care about getting Ozzie playing well again, and they don't think that will happen playing every 5th game. They want to have 2 goalies playing well heading into the playoffs.

Babcock is trying to get Osgood ready for the playoffs. Of course letting in questionable goals isn't helping and Babcock is noticing. He said after the game that he wasn't dissappointed with the teams play and energy, but they just have to keep the puck out of the net. Shot at Ozzie (again.) He is giving him his chances to return to 2008 form. He will probably start Osgood game 1, but you better believe, another 0-2 start and Conklin is in! Or if you read in another thread, Broduer would be in!

I just think that Conklin has earned his chance at getting the majority of the games. Come playoff time, if Conklin is still playing at a high level then keep him going. I can't see why you wouldn't play the guy who is playing well versus the veteran who has played well in years gone by but currently is playing like crap. Everyone was unproven in the playoffs at some point in their career. Play who is playing better, that should be all the motivation needed for the other to find a way to improve his game and earn his way into the net. It's crazy how many people on here will visciously defend the guy who is playing horribly bad 2/3 through the season... and not see the other goalie earning his way and deserving to play.

Few people are defending Ozzie. But would you rather go into the playoffs with one goalie playing well, or two? Personally, I'd prefer two. Conklin is playing fine, so give him enough starts to keep the rust off, but let's play Ozzie more to see if we can get him going.

Obviously you'd want 2 goalie's playing well going into the playoffs. But like i said in another thread games are for playing and practice is for improving. Something needs to be drastically changed because what ever he is doing is not working and so far, 2/3 of the way into the season, playing games isn't improving his game either.
