Don't expect him to be back though wings coaching and management always let players rest for longer than they really have to for no real reason

I'd also like to think they don't need him to play against the Kings. Surrre hope I'm right!

I'm pretty sure that you are right.

The wings will give some extra time just to rest up for the hopefully very long playoff run.

Where do you come up with this stuff?

Also, as Vladifan pionted out, there's a reason to let a player of Hossa's skill rest to ensure he's 100% healthy. It's called "need versus necessity".

Update from Thursday's practice: Wings forward Marian Hossa didn't skate and won't play Friday against the Kings due to a sore neck, coach Mike Babcock said. Hossa took a hit to the back of the head by San Jose's Douglas Murray on Wednesday. He left the game in the second period and didn't return.

additional update from practice:

Update from Thursday's practice: Wings forward Marian Hossa didn't skate and won't play Friday against the Kings due to a sore neck, coach Mike Babcock said. Hossa took a hit to the back of the head by San Jose's Douglas Murray on Wednesday. He left the game in the second period and didn't return.

"I would think he would be back right away,'' Babcock said.

Defenseman Brett Lebda said he feels ready to play but Babcock said he will not play Friday.

Ville Leino took Hossa's place on the line with Valtteri Filppula and Johan Franzen. All the other lines and defense pairings remained the same.

Chris Osgood will start in net, as scheduled. It'll be his first game since Feb. 15.

I thought hits to the head were unacceptable in the New NHL. Huh. Guess it depends on who gets hit and who does the hitting?

Get better, Hoss.

Not an intentional hit to the head - and it looked like Marian didn't have his helmut strapped on tight enough or at all (?) since it came flying off - heard some comments to that effect on NHLnet last night.

Sounds like it's minor - hopefully - and since we have a back-to-back (again <_< ) not a bad time to sit out.

puckloo, the initial hit was a clean hit. Doug Murray just got incidental contact with hoss after the hit...nothing more. It was just a bad break for hossa that murray was where he was. Murray was just skating and hossa kind of fell into him after the initial contact. Nothing dirty went on there.
