Francis Pare

Good to hear. I'd like to see what he can do at the NHL level. Is a he a good skater or a smart player? I havent seen him enough to know, but usually being one of the two helps to ameliorate the size issue.

The next Hudler, Roy, Sullivan, or St. Louis?

Plus: Decent skater lacking breakaway speed... Superior on-ice vision... More known as playmaker despite goal totals... Works well in front on the powerplay...

Minus: Doesn't have rinkwide speed... Undersized... Big numbers in the QMJHL don't necessarily translate to the AHL...

Organizational Comments:

What GRC says: Summer 2008: Pare put up some big numbers in the QMJHL, garnering league MVP and a first all star team birth. It remains to be seen whether his game will translate to the pro level where he has less time and space to make plays. If he can make the adjustment he should bring some skill to the team.

Role: Playmaking Center

Sounds like he can be another Hudler if it all works out. Right now he actually sounds similar to Cory Emmerton, except smaller.

He's put together an impressive rookie season in the AHL. He seems to have it figured out right now, while Cory still hasn't put up the numbers he was expected to in the AHL. It'll be interesting to see how both these players do next season. Hopefully they both take that next step.

Hudler was a 2nd round pick and had 97 (!!!!!!!) points as a 22 year old in the AHL. In 76 games.

Pare, at 21, had 47 points in 61 games.

He has a ways to come before he can be metioned in the same breath as Hudler.

ok and Hudler had like 30 points the year before that

To bad what anyone does in the AHL does not matter at all in the NHL.

I am with the other guy.

Deep Breath - HUDLER, PARE, HUDLER, PARE, HUDLER, PARE, HUDLER, PARE - Exhale

Great move, I've been watching this kid all season. Pare and Abdelkader are tied for the most ever goals in Grand Rapids for a rookie - only Frankie has done it in a about a dozen less games than Justin. Justin has earned his through size and strength; Frankie via finesse.

more soft undersized players.

YES!!

I'm more impressed with his +22 rating than anything a scale or tape measure might say about him. He leads the team in that regard by a very wide margin. It's even more noticeable when you consider that the Grifs leading scorer (Haydar) is -22 on the year and Abby is -1. Looks like there's more to Pare than just a good set of hands. Versatile guys like that are a better bet to contribute than one-way type players. It gives me some hope that at some point if they call him up he can play a 3rd/4th line role or PK in addition to what he can contribute offensively.

Anyone who would knock a player based soley on his height/weight is a moron of the Bobby Clarke moronic level club. Players like Verbeek, Ciccarelli, Theoren Fleury, St. Louis, Cammalleri, Derek Roy and Savard, should have taught us that it's not the size of the dog in the fight but rather the size of the fight in the dog which will determine a player's performance and value. Or you can just be a complete dumbass neanderthal like Clarke and draft/sign everyone and anyone who walks through the door at 6'4"/220lbs. I'm a bigger guy myself but at least I'm smart enough to know there's lots of guys smaller in stature who are 10 times the hockey player I'll ever be.

If you had to choose between Hal Gill and Nick Lidstrom on your blueline who would you want? Like f***en duh eh.
