Pat 44 Report post Posted April 10, 2009 http://blog.mlive.com/snapshots/2009/04/ho...gsnashvill.html STORY: Red Wings forward Marian Hossa left the Detroit Red Wings' game against the Nashville Predators with 8:08 left in the second period as the Wings' medical staff chose to rest his "lower-body injury" for precautionary reasons. Translation: His recurring groin injury flared up and the Wings decided he should just sit for the rest of the game instead of tweaking it further. Ohyeahbytheway: Welcome to playoff time, folks, where Red Wings GM Ken Holland intended his discussion of "upper and lower-body injury" protections to take effect. If a player has his hand in a cast, it's an "upper-body injury," if a player's knee is encased in ice, it's a, "Lower-body injury," and we just have to assume that, from the get-go, Gary Bettman's upper-body injury has been stuck up his lower-body injury. Update 9:13 PM: The Free Press's Helene St. James confirms... April 9, Detroit Free Press: Marian Hossa left the Wings-Predators game midway through the second period. Hossa was hurt on a play when he went into the boards, just before Kirk Maltby was assessed a penalty at 8:17. Hossa skated off the ice by himself, and went down the tunnel. Hopefully hes only out for the next few games..
EuroTwin 240 Report post Posted April 10, 2009 Feel better soon Hoss! I hope their right about the mostly precautionary resting. and we just have to assume that, from the get-go, Gary Bettman's upper-body injury has been stuck up his lower-body injury. I think I kind of love this person now.
KrazyGangsta 79 Report post Posted April 10, 2009 Sit him out until the 3rd game of the playoffs unless we lost the first one.
Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted April 10, 2009 (edited) When they showed the replay on FSN it looked like he might have twisted his ankle. EDIT: Okay, Mike says groin. "He hurt his groin a little bit," Babcock said. "I don't know how severe or anything like that." Also here. therock48880 14 Report post Posted April 10, 2009 *** Arnott I was at the game and we were sitting down at that end of the ice. I thought when it happened that he got hit in the head. You could tell when he got up, that something was wrong. The guys in front of us turned and said, "Hossa just got hit in the head and he's hurt." With his concussion problem this year, I was worried he might have another concussion. And now I read it's a "lower body injury." I hope it's a lower body injury and not something with his head but it sure looked like he got hit in the head in person. This time of year, lower body injuries can be rather wide-ranging. Basically, anything from the head down.
DatsMyWings13 4 Report post Posted April 10, 2009 (edited) Good news on Hossa: Quick update from Joe Louis Arena: Red Wings forward Marian Hossa received good news about his groin injury today. Results of an MRI showed no tear, according to general manager Ken Holland. Hossa didn't practice today and won't play in the final two regular season games against the Blackhawks, Saturday in Detroit and Sunday in Chicago. Hossa left the ice midway through the second period in Thursday's 4-3 shootout loss to the Predators. "I felt a little pull when I went off the ice, Hossa said today. "No sense this time of year to push it." Hossa expects to be ready to play when the playoffs begin next week. He leads the Wings with 40 goals and has 31 assists. ...As for contract negotiations, Holland said he still hopes to sign either Hossa or Johan Franzen before the playoffs begin. Holland has said he is closer to getting a deal done with Franzen. Holland said he won't negotiate after Monday, when the team begins preparing for their first-round playoff opponent. From Freep.
