MRI reveals no torn groin muscle for Hossa

Update from Friday's practice: The Wings received good news on the Marian Hossa injury front, as an MRI revealed no torn muscle in his groin, which he injured during the second period of Thursday's game. Hossa wanted to play in Sunday's regular season finale in Chicago, but he'll miss the last two games, including Saturday's home game vs. the Blackhawks. Hossa and the club are hopeful that he'll be ready for Game 1 of the playoffs.

"I'm pretty optimistic,'' Hossa said. "I had some groin injuries before, but this one doesn't seem like something that would bother me as much.''

No official word on when the Wings will open the playoffs, but they are lobbying the league for a Thursday start, rather than Wednesday. The extra day will not only come in handy for Hossa, but gives players more rest after finishing the season with three games in four days.

General manager Ken Holland said he will continue talking to the agents of Johan Franzen and Hossa through the weekend, but that Monday is the last possible to get a deal done before he postpones talks until after the playoffs. He's further along with Franzen, and since he can only sign one before the playoffs due to the salary cap, if there's a deal to be made in the next few days, it likely would be with Franzen.

Here's the lines they skated with in practice:

Hudler-Datsyuk-Holmstrom

Franzen-Zetterberg-Cleary

Kopecky-Filppula-Samuelsson

Meech-Draper-Maltby

Lidstrom-Rafalski

Kronwall-Stuart

Ericsson-Lebda

Chelios

Conklin (starting Saturday)

Osgood (starting Sunday)

Thank you God for making Babs take Filppula off Datsyuk's wing. Why he thought Filppula was a good finisher for Datsyuk was beyond me. He still could've put Filppula on Z's line and let Val dish the puck to Zetterberg, but whatever, as long as Datsyuk has a finisher on his wing instead of a distributor I'm happy.

I second that....Thursday, Saturday, Monday, would be ideal but not likely !!

Might depend on who we're playing ... if we get Anaheim, that Monday game (and game 4) would be in Anaheim, meaning a 10:00 start for the east coast. I'm guessing the NHL would prefer having that game as a Sunday matinee and only game 4 late night. If we draw Columbus or St Louis it wouldn't matter.
