Opie 308 Report post Posted April 14, 2009 I cannot remember a year where they didn't at least struggle in the first round, for that matter very rarely do any teams cake walk any round. Both teams have potentially 7 games to get there sh!t together. Last year it took replacing the netminder, in 02 it took Stevie and a 70 foot shot, 98 it was Phoenix. I know that first round match ups are usually mismatches (1-8,-2-7 at least the others are a little closer) but it is the playoffs and it is a brand new season, teams like C-bus, Nashville and other young orgs will be gunning for the Wings and Sharks, to prove that they can hang with the big boys. Even if they lose the series they can still leave a mark by playing a hard fought series. This could lead to a young team being highly motivated and a veteran (winning team) being a little casual to start the post season. I have a feeling this will not happen this year, but I have red glasses on so it is hard to see anything blue at the moment!
Wings_Toledo 233 Report post Posted April 14, 2009 OK, stop this s*** right now. We didn't win last year because of Dallas Drake. He didn't put us of "the edge", he didn't show us "what the playoffs mean"... he was a 4th line winger. If you really buy into the "we need some dude who has never won a Cup to win a Cup", you are an idiot. Wanting to win means s***. EVERYONE wants to win it. Show me the player who doesn't. Dallas ******* Drake. If Zetterberg ever said to Holland he wanted that Cup for Drake, Holland would have bitched slapped him twice. Then, never resigned him. For Drake. Whatever. I guess I should have been more clear in stating that the majority of this year's roster has won the Cup at least once ON TOP OF not having a near-retirement-former-Red-Wing to motivate them. No need to get so defensive about it. Damn.

j.hoop 64 Report post Posted April 14, 2009 dallas drake was a big motivator, but i dont see why hossa cant be either. unlike drake, he has the skill to change a game, and his age and experience mean no detriment to his hunger. he watched a cup slip away last year, what greater motivation is that?! i think helm can do great things for us, his youth rubbed off on drapes and maltby last year, i agree with everyone when they say they live for the playoffs. they arent big scorers, has no milestones to reach, you gotta think the regular season doesnt mean much anymore to them. they will grind! i hope mccarty is with the team to provide that locker room excitement. there is enough veteran leadership on this team to know what it takes to win it all.
