Dominator2005 558 Report post Posted April 28, 2009 Don't forget that Malkin was injured last season (after big hit from Richards in the game # 5)... you just CAN'T compare these two teams
Dominator2005 558 Report post Posted April 28, 2009 ok, the Getzlaf line and the Datsyuk line will get thier points and cancel each other out, but who, on the Ducks is gonna stop the Zetterberg and Filppula lines? Last time we faced them, we had Dats and Zetterberg on the same line. We didn't have Rafalski, Stuart a healthy Kronwall OR Marion Hossa and the new and improved Franzen, let alone a more experienced Hudler and Filppula. Getzlaf line will get thier points, but much like the Pittsburgh series, one line isn't gonna beat this Wings. And if it just so happens the Wings DO manage to shut Getzlaf down, bring out the brooms. (although on record I am not calling a sweep.) PLUS, the Wings will not be intimidated what-so-ever. They are proven that the last 5 series. Every team, Nashville, Colorado, Dallas, Pittsburgh& Columbus have ALL tried to come out and intimidate them because they are a smal team. We see how that worked out for all of those teams. PLUS compare Lidstrom - Markov, Quincey - Lebda, Lilja - Chelios to Lidstrom - Rafalski, Stuart - Ericsson, Kronwall - Lebda. Its gonna be a different series and a MUCH different outcome. They lost 2 big players in Kunitz and Pahlsson also!!!
Dano33 41 Report post Posted April 28, 2009 They lost 2 big players in Kunitz and Pahlsson also!!! Don't forget Andy McDonald, at that point he was arguably their best forward. The Ducks can't match the Wings if we play our best game, we need to come out strong and not let up.
Guest EZBAKETHAGANGSTA Report post Posted April 28, 2009 Last time we faced them we had also just finished off an overtly physical Calgary followed by an oversized San Jose, and were down two of our top defensmen. Anaheim cruised through Minnesota and the Canucks, and it was just a matter of picking the Wings off when they were down (much like we did to Dallas last year). The Wings core was also two years younger, and two years less experienced than now. That might not mean much for Lids, who is about as playoff savvy as one can get, but for the younger folks like Kronwall, Franzen, Dats, Zetterberg, Hudler, Fillppula, etc, two years, including a Western Conference Finals loss to the team they're about to take on, no less, and a Stanley Cup Winning run is a hell of a lot of experience to gain. You may be right. They might not be able to shut that line down. But if the Wings don't, it sure as hell isn't for the same reasons that they couldn't shut them down two years ago. You also forgot the addition of a few small name players like Hossa, Stuart, Ericsson, and Helm =p. Seriously did anyone actually wach the SJ Vs Ana series? Anaheim did not play that good, they were outshot badly in the series and allowed 40+ shots a game. Nabokov lost Sj the series whether than Anaheim winning it
Kwame_Kilpatrick 0 Report post Posted April 28, 2009 thats not fair anaheims top line was good, it was mostly hiller the goalkeeper who won it. san jose just didnt play a good puck position game
soonboomer 31 Report post Posted April 29, 2009 Everyone knows that the Ducks top line tore through the end of the regular season and the Sharks series. When you compare and contrast the sure talent between the Ducks top line this year and last years Penguins team, IMO I think the Penguins had a better line. Prior to the SCF's they were explosive. I'm not sure how if any comparisons can be drawn, but I'm pretty confident with our chances against the Ducks. Lidstrom and Z are going to be all over that line like they were with Crosby. It's more of a matchup thing than a matter of talent. The Crosby line tried to out skill Detroit, which played to the Wings strength. The Ducks top line will use muscle..a more likely scenario for success. Given that, the Ducks will find that running over a heartless bunch of choking Sharks was light years easier than handling Detroit's defense. The Ducks top line gets theirs, everyone else gets shut down, and the Wings win in 6.
Kwame_Kilpatrick 0 Report post Posted April 29, 2009 well the ducks are more emotional and people have always said that intensity has been detroits weakness. but detroit has always had cool nerves under pressure, we never give up (sounds cliche but cmon it is true)
