selkie 10 Report post Posted April 28, 2009 http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=420456 Once again, Datsyuk is a finalist for the Selke Award, along with Philadelphia Flyers center Mike Richards and Vancouver Canucks center/right winger Ryan Kesler of the Vancouver Canucks. All three have excellent credentials and define the concept "hard to play against."

Doggy 130 Report post Posted April 28, 2009 Datsyuk is a certainty. I'm really glad Richards and Kesler also got some recognition for their defensive game. Three very deserving finalists.

I'm still waiting for Pahlson to get some recog for his play. Datsyuk in a landslide. Just remember, Datsyuk knows where you're going with the puck before you do. Between those 3, Pavs should take it, but you know how the media is with offensive stats, Doggy. Those shorties from Richards are gonna weigh heavily.. Chairman Maouth 97 Report post Posted April 28, 2009 I guess he has to keep busy somehow while his team waits for the winner of the Chicago/Vancouver to finish up. Excuse me if I am mistaken, but don't the Wings also have a team called the Anaheim Ducks to get through during that same time period?
StevieY'sguy 1 Report post Posted April 28, 2009 Congrats to Pav, all of Richard's shorties are impressive but for overall defensive game Pavel wins hands down. I'm also happy for Kesler's nomination he deserves it. Maybe one of these years justice will be served and Willie Mitchell will get a Norris nomination that he's deserved a couple of times. Vincanni 1 Report post Posted April 28, 2009 Excuse me if I am mistaken, but don't the Wings also have a team called the Anaheim Ducks to get through during that same time period? *sigh* I was responded sardonically to Killer's insinuation that Detroit's going to lose to Anaheim and be golfing come a week and a half from now. My comment was a counter to his by sarcastically agreeing with him that Datsyuk will be golfing, but only as a pass time while waiting for the other series to end, not because his season is over with. By this insinuation I am instilling a notion that the Wings will sweep/dominate the Ducks, much like Killer was motioning that the Ducks where going to sweep/dominate our Wings. People and sarcasm sometimes, just doesn't work well over the internet.

Doggy 130 Report post Posted April 28, 2009 Between those 3, Pavs should take it, but you know how the media is with offensive stats, Doggy. Those shorties from Richards are gonna weigh heavily.. Datsyuk got 17 more points than Richards this season. Richards can play a better shut-down defensive role and of course he got those shorties but Datsyuk has brought flair to playing defense in the NHL again. He's made it a thing to behold and not since Sergei Fedorov in the mid-90's has the media ever noticed a forward's defensive game this much. I've many times praised and expressed my appreciation for the player Mike Richards is, and if I were a coach, I'd put him on an important PK before Dats (along with many others), but Pavel will win this trophy easily. dicksmack 33 Report post Posted April 28, 2009 No big surprise here... I think Pav will have a tougher time winning this year due to the taint of the Winged Wheel. What? That's right, The Wings were not known for their defensive prowess this reg. season. Also, Pav wasn't so far and away dominant statistically with regard to takeaways, though his other numbers are similar to last year. In any case, I'm very glad to hear it! Kwame_Kilpatrick 0 Report post Posted April 28, 2009 around the nhl there is a strong group that thinks mike richards will win, but i think this is just the usual eastern conference bias. datsyuk is old school soviet style hockey at its best- beautiful but always practical. Datsyuk is one of the last of this breed and he does not get enough respect everywhere for his skill. if you watch him play u know how good he is
