Guest GordieSid&Ted Report post Posted May 4, 2009 i would say, in general, datsyuk is the better player. (more points with lower ATOI + selke winner/repeat candidate.) in this years' playoffs, though, getzlaf has been, IMO, far and away the best -- and undeniably the most valuable to his team -- player out there. i hate him. i hate his face. i hate that he cycled the puck in our zone at will the entire game yesterday. if the wings cannot find a way to shut down getzlaf, we will not win the series. and for that, he is far more valuable to his time right now than any of our players are, hands down. I said before the series started that if people were hanging their hopes on us shutting down the Getzlaf line, then they might as well pack it in because that isn't going to happen. They are too big, too talented and able to impose their will down low due to their size, good hands and smarts. Lidstrom is the greatest but game in and game out, at this point in his career, he's not going to handle these guys. You look at our biggest, most physical dman in Brad Stuart and he's probably smaller than Getzlaf and about the same size as Perry and Ryan. Who do we match up against that? Chely? Lebda? Kronner? Rafalski? Ericsson is the only guy big enough to man up and Lids is the only guy smart enough to play against them. I was resigned to the fact that the Getzlaf line was going to do damage. The problem is our big offensive guys aren't doing it (aside from Franzen). And our supposedly deep foward corps is getting outgunned by the Ducks seemingly lower skilled forwards. IMO, this series won't be won or lost by Datsyuk/Z/Hossa or Getzlaf/Perry/Ryan. It'll be won by which team gets the most secondary scoring. Sammy did his part. Now we need Flip, Hulder, Cleary and Holmstrom to step up. These guys can't get outscored by the likes of Marchant and Ryan Carter for pete's sake.

The_Cub 0 Report post Posted May 4, 2009 NHL.com has to write stories and hell the guy has been pretty damn good so far. Yes its a bit early for Conn Smythe talk. I do however prefer this over another Crosby/Ovechkin ass kissing session.
vOrophin 5 Report post Posted May 4, 2009 Getz has played outstanding so far, but I think Hiller has done more for their team. I'm interested how much he has in the tank though. He's playing a lot of minutes with a lot of intensity, and that line is getting pretty much everything done for the team, I wonder how far they can carry the team. Guest Four Report post Posted May 4, 2009 I want to see a line with Filppula - Getzlaf - Helm I believe it would actually be a rgeat line.. Helm always goes in and gets the puck, Filppula can skate and Getzlaf can finish. If they worked together and Filppula got his passing game and Helm got a little heavier, it would possibly make a great line.
