I aploogize if this has been answered but I searched and could not find it.

My son tells me the Wings Captain and Asst Captains have the C and A on the opposite side of their Jerseys compared to other teams in the NHL. Is there a reason for this and is it true..

cheers... Jimmy

It is true

Basically the wing is too large and covers where the C would go on the other side, so we have to use the left side.

You guys pretty much nailed it, but I'll just add that it came about because of how the EDGE jerseys are cut--the tip of the Wing is in the way now, it wasn't pre-EDGE.

It gets kind of interesting with the patches, as you can see in the Lidstrom pic.

Mr. Delvecchio says it's not a new idea either:

Yep, if they kept it where it was, it would be in a fold on the new jersey.

I believe FSN-Detroit had a brief segment with Paul Boyer about that when the new uni's came out before last season.

Basically because the "tail" of the Wings logo is so high up, there isn't enough room to put it on the left shoulder because of where the seam in the jersey is,
