wingnut40 176 Report post Posted May 6, 2009 Not really sure where to put this, but since Doggy had a topic about meeting Wings after the game I thought it'd be ok. If it belongs in the Water Cooler hopefully it can be moved there. Ok, this is gonna be long so get comfy if you're gonna read it. It was probably the 2nd best day of my life 1st one being the RW practice last year. SO. You'll NEVER guess who did chapel at my school yesterday. I'll give you a hint his name starts with David and ends with Booth!!!!!! So. I go into chapel and I sit in the bleachers(we have chapel in the gym) and of course,my class sits at the very top. I see this young guy standing by the podium, and while our principle is giving announcements I'm like "Hmm that guy stands with his hands on his hips like Lidstrom...he stands like a hockey player. He looks so familiar, but I don't know where I've seen him." Then a teacher introduces the guest pastor and he's like and David Booth too. I'm like "Wait WHAT!!??1" So the pastor started off telling David's stats and such, and telling the people who didn't know(which I already did) that he went to school here. He asked him some questions about the ups and downs of hockey. He said the travel wasn't very fun. Then he asked what role his family had on his life and he said he was grateful for all the sacrifices he made for him and such. Then the pastor said we know you're very open about your faith, what effect has that had on your career? David quoted the Bible verse that says "You're(God) works are wonderful. I know that full well." And he just said that no matter what happened in the games it was God at work and he knew that God had a plan for it. Then he quoted the verse that said "Whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God." He said it's hard to be motivated sometimes and he was like sometimes you don't want to do your homework or do what your parents ask, but if whatever we do, we do it for God, it wouldn't seem as overwhelming because your doing it to glorify God. He only went here for a year before going to a Division 1 school so he could get noticed for hockey. Obviously it was a public school and he said one of the last papers he had to write was about your hero. He wrote it about Jesus, he didn't really detail it, but it seemed like it caused a stir in class discussion. It was cute, the pastor knew David because he was the pastor at his grade school and he was like "I know one thing you failed at. Do you know what it is?" David was like "...uh spelling?" He said that David was really bad at the trombone. David laughed it off and named some other kid who was worse than him, so I thought that was cute. He was really smart, very down to earth, and he was such a sweetheart. After chapel some of the kids went to get his autograph, and of course there's fricking puck bunnies. I'm like "Guys, do you even know who he is?" they're like "No, but he's hot." I went up to him, shook his hand, basically implying I wasn't a puck bunny because they don't shake hands, and congratulated him on a great season. As he was signing a piece of paper for me, I'm like "Thank you for scoring a hat trick against the ducks." he's like "Why is that", I said, "Because I really don't like them." He thought it was funny. I wasn't gonna get a picture with him because I'm too shy, but my friends like no get in there, so she shoved me next to him. I was fine when I was talking to him, but when I had to take the picture with him I was shaking so bad, and I'm naturally slightly shaky as it is, so I was shaking like a leaf. The pic is still on my friends phone, but when she sends it to me I'll put it up if you guys want to see it. Or if this thread get bumped down to page 2 before I have the chance to post it, I'll just put it on the hottest wing thread. All I can say is I'm glad I decided to straighten my hair, put on some make up, and generally not look that ugly yesterday. Oh and I did really well in my track meet. I set personal bests in all my events, so I think David needs to do chapel on meet days more often. BTW two things, 1. This is not a religious debate thread, just telling you what happened at school. 2. I didn't directly quote him because a) I don't remember half the stuff word for word, and b) it's my interpretation of what he said and I didn't want to give his words one meaning when he could have meant something else. The end. Thanks for taking the time to read this. P.S. This might be the first time in LGW history that I started a topic and didn't epic fail at it. ... we'll see. Guest Four Report post Posted May 7, 2009 Very nice! I've never had a hockey player at my school during an assembly although my mom used to go to the same gym as Bob Boughner and my neighbours know Scott Walker and a few others so I've been over there when he has and such. Put the pic up
