C-TownWing 0 Report post Posted May 12, 2009 TSN. And, in a related story, Barry Melrose is reported to be seething. I actually respect Melrose for being honest about it...he's on record as saying that he hopes the Lightning loses every game they play, none of the PC "I wish them well" stuff. That's how I'd feel if I were fired. I can't believe how clean Tocchet emerged from the gambling thing. We should all be so lucky.
YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted May 12, 2009 This is the best part of the article right here: he Tampa Bay Lightning made Rick Tocchet their full-time coach Monday, removing the "interim" tag and giving him a two-year contract. The former NHL star took over in mid-November after Barry Melrose was fired. Tampa Bay went 19-33-14 under Tocchet Yes, clearly a guy who lead your team to a .287 win percentage is, and I quote, your "guy." Just when you thought the Tampa Bay Lightning management couldn't get any dumber..

Chris L 0 Report post Posted May 12, 2009 I still don't get why Melrose was fired. He was there for too short of a time for him to be fired for performance reasons. He must have pissed off the front office.

He must have pissed off the front office. One of the main reasons was because he apparently refused to play Stamkos as much as the management wanted him to. He must have pissed off the front office. I remember reading it was because the old ownership hired him, not the current one. Couple that with the poor start, and Lawton had his scapegoat in place.
