NGKEIB 32 Report post Posted May 14, 2009 I agree that it would have been nice to see him bury a few of his chances, but he's made some great plays (the set-up for that Franzén goal springs to mind), has a regular kill shift with Maltby (though with Draper maybe coming back that could change) and has been getting the puck into Anaheim's zone very well. I'm not bothered that he's not scoring if he's on a line with 2 of our best finishers and has set up some of their goals. And at least the fact that he's getting good scoring chances says something about his play.
Stiffy 0 Report post Posted May 14, 2009 (edited) But he IS Finnish!!! ha ha ha ha, I crack myself up. ALso, I am disappointed that I am the first one to post this most obvious corney joke. If Flip is the one guy you can single out, well I'd hate to be working for you! :-) He is playing with a ton of jump and he sure is contributing the production of his line. In fact, I think Dats could learn a bit from watching how Flip just barrels into traffic and to the net. He may end up off his feet more times than not, but he keeps trying. I like that. stormboy 47 Report post Posted May 14, 2009 I think he's got all the skills and potential to be a star, but just put the damn puck in tonight! i understand the frustration, but i would say that datsyuk, zetterberg, homer, hossa, franzen and even hudler and do a very small degree sammy should be relied on for scoring more than filppula. while it would obviously be nice to see him score, i'd look at any one of these players, especially the first four i mentioned, for improved goal scoring before thinking that the problem lies with filppula. basically, one or two of these guys needs to get it going. if datsyuk and hossa start finishing their chances, we won't have to worry about filppula at all. YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted May 14, 2009 As far as I'm concerned, the OP is questioning whether or not Filppula is a poor finisher. Hes not suggesting hes the reason we're losing a few games. And on that note, yes, Filppula is a poor finisher.

Z and D for the C 712 Report post Posted May 15, 2009 flip doesn't need to finish to be a great player. Look at his play to give us our third goal. He may not be a wicked goal scorer, but he makes great plays all over the ice whenever he's on it. Flip has a great shot, he just needs the confidence and experience. Guest Crymson Report post Posted May 15, 2009 Filppula has the skillset: he's a great skater, he has good defensive awareness, he has good offensive awareness, he's a great passer and he has a good shot. At this stage, he lacks the killer instinct on the latter. I'm confident that he'll improve that area as he continues to develop.
