Haha I just posted that nickname on the Helm thread. Some caller mentioned it on 97.1 and I thought it was PERFECT and hilarious.

I've got 97.1 on too.

We are completely ridiculous to think that Helm is "dangerous", a completely notable role player, but not dangerous. I don't think 2 goals makes him dangerous. I love me some Helm but never at the expense of a Hossa.

I think Helm, if he turns out to be the next Draper, will be much more valuable than Hossa.

We can always pick an expensive highly paid superstar at a trade deadline.

But a great checking line playoff performer, with a great speed, extremely strong works ethics, and a salary which will be kept at low levels... That is precious in a salary cap league.

He seems to be restless in putting pressure on opponents D-men, we should put him on the PK next year.

Our PK is our key weakness right now, since Draps is out of his prime.

Also I think he has much better hands than Draper but the same huge problem to score on breakaways. Game 7 was the exception ;)

Much props to Helm. He brings energy, speed, faceoff wins and enthusiasm that is well-needed for champions to repeat. I like this kid a lot. So much so that I hope he has a permanent roster spot along with Ericsson, Abdelkader, and Leino come next season.

He's not a scoring juggernaut, but he's only logging limited minutes. That breakaway goal was awesome to watch and Mickey Redmond's comments had me in tears, I was laughing so hard:

"Have you ever been to a greyhound race?" FSD's Mickey Redmond said. "Holy mackerel, does he ever come out of the box and he leaves everybody in his dust. Whoa. He's gone. "They never get a stick on him. They did -- pardon me -- at the end."

Bear in mind that he and Abdelkader are making great use of their limited time by leading the team in hits. As for the Draper comparison, I think they're very close in just about every respect. As Helm matures I think you'll see him post more goals per season.

Get the #43....I did! Ti-girl is right....this kid was a long shot to do anything....but he has a fierce desire to improve & compete.....all his career he's given a 100% everytime out & the bigger the game the bigger he plays. He definately is the real deal!

Seriously? Then I have a feeling you're going to be disappointed in Helm next year.

Helm is speedy, really strong on the draw, a great shutdown player, and provides energetic checking. He's suited to grinding it out on the 3rd and 4th lines.

Draper, in his prime was speedy, really strong on the draw, a great shutdown player, provided energetic checking and chipped pretty well offensively (good for 15 goals a year on average during his prime).

Draper had decent hands, Helm really doesn't. Even Babs said he won't score much at this level. When he does score it's with his speed, which is fine. Just don't expect Helm to be a 15 goal a year guy- the odds are really stacked against that.

So how isn't Helm the new Draper? Draper was a better scorer while Helm has more energy.

I don't think you're remembering the same Kris Draper I am:

I think the comparison is dead-on. Draper only topped 15 goals ONCE in his career, and that wasn't until 2003-04 until he'd already won 3 Cups. Also, that was one time in Draper's career where he was beginning to be used as something more than a Grind Liner, and even played some LW on the 2nd line.

Sure, Draper might have been able to score 20 goals if he signed for $3 million on the Islanders or some garbage team like that. But as long as Helm is a Wing, he's probably not going to be a Top 6 forward either. I think you'd be stunned how many players in the NHL could back themselves into a 20-goal season if they got decent playing time for a full-season (or just a little bit of power play time). Draper was never a dangler either--he created his own opportunities with speed and hustle, and it was the hungry young players as much as the top line guys that have really brought this franchise back to life in the playoffs the past few years.

Dude- we're saying the same thing, I just said Draper had slightly better hands than Helm, aside from that they're dead on.
