How am I being an *******? What exactly am I ignorant of? You seem quite agitated.

Detroit in general is a dump. Few would refute that. You met some nice people there. That's nice. I bet Somalia has a lot of nice people too. That doesn't really have anything to do with the topic of why the Red Wings have filled more seats in recent years than the Hawks.

1) Detroit has been a better team and fans like winners.

2) There's more to do in Chicago.

3) Joe Lewis arena is one of a handful of places in Detroit where white folks can feel safe after dark. It makes sense that it would be a popular place to go.

You genuinely don't see it, do you? Disturbing.

In Detroit you pretty much choose between, buying crack, selling crack, going to the zoo to check out the crack-dealer's old tiger, and watching the wings play.

Detroit is an awful area with a few nice neighborhoods.

Detroit has...well, I guess they still have some of those pretty prop buildings that were constructed for the Super Bowl, right?

I for one think that, although the Detroit zoo is the worst major metro area zoo I've ever even heard of, the crack dealer's tiger is a pretty cool draw.

...........

How am I being an *******?

Is that a serious question?

Which means you do see it, it's intentional, and lowers you to flamethrower status. Thanks for clearing that up.

Umm, no. I don't see it.

Is it somehow bad form to call it as you see it on a city, or is it better to pretend that places like Detroit are nice and have a lot of "character"? Sorry, I'm not gonna lie.

Is that a serious question?

Yes.

Am I an ******* because I mentioned that Detroit had to build pretend building facades because they were embarassed by the shambles the city had fallen into? Am I an ******* for mentioning that Detroit really doen't have many nice areas, and has more bad than good? Am I an ******* for mentioning that you can buy crack almost anywhere in Detroit, as opposed to having to actually seek it out in other big cities? Am I an ******* for thinking that the drug tiger at the zoo is flippin' rad?

You don't matter, Micah. We live here. We know what it's like here. Detroit proper is not a complete war zone as you allude to. I have to wonder how much time you've actually spent here, and exactly how much of the city you've actually seen. There are plenty of "nice" places to go in the city limits, such as the Detroit Opera House, the Hillberry Theater, the Detroit institute of Arts, the Fox Theater, the State Theater, Greektown and so much more. Most folks I know aren't "afraid" of the City. If you are, then stay away. We don't want you here. I would bet crack can be bought within a mile of wherever you are at this moment. Your gleeful attempt to spark hate on the City is weak. Of all places on the face of God's gray earth, we know better than anyone how to put out a flame. Does it make you feel superior in some way to point out how hard Detroit is. I look at you with pity rather than contempt. What kind of human being would kick a dog when it's down? You are acting like a moosefart. And an *******.

The perfect summary.

The negatives of Detroit are very well-documented. I just get annoyed when people say there are no positives (besides the Red Wings) because it's just complete horses***.

Maybe you should remember this board is about hockey.

Go toot Chicagos hornon www.sweethomechicago.com or some s***. Typical Chicagoan that only claims "the Loop" and forgets about 85% of the rest of Chicago, which is in fact a dirty s***hole.

I have lived in Chicago for alot of my life, I got news for you: It aint that great.

The fact remains, come here to talk hockey.

Uh, no, it doesn't make me feel supirior to point out the contrasts between the cities of Chicago and Detroit. Why should it, I have no dog in the fight. Hell, I'm from Sheboygan Wisconsin, that city is a dump too - albeit a much smaller one. I don't feel any need to defend it as if it's one of my children, and I certainly don't get upset if others point out the things about the city that make it a dump. I'm just not that sensitive. I take pride in the life, the empire I have created from nothing, not the city that I was born in or currently reside in.

Quick question for you. Look at a map of Detroit. Take a highlighter and color the nice areas green and the dumpy areas red. Are there more nice areas or crappy areas to live in and raise a family? Serious question.

And what's this "You don't matter, Micah?" Do you mean that you don't care what outsiders think of Detroit? Fine. Great in fact, why on earth would you care?

Or maybe you meant that I just plain don't matter at all, as a human being. I guess in the grand scheme of things, that's probably true. I matter on the micro level though. I mean, I contribute as much to our GNP as dozens of the average Detroiter, so you should appreciate that.

The rest of the country is helping you out. All the Americans who feel enough pitty for the people of Detroit that they buy their inferior products (hey, that's me!), all the people who see a fair chunk of their paycheck taken away by the Feds to be pumped into places like Detroit to keep people in homes and with food in their bellies. You oughta appreciate that. I think we matter. Way more than hockey does.

I'm sorry if I struck a nerve with you. Ease up. Detroit might be your home, but that doesn't mean people ought not describe it as it is.

Can you think of any areas West of Halsted, South of the Ike or north of the Gold Coast within Chicago City limits youd like to raise a family?

I wouldn't worry about him too much. If you go back and read through his posts almost none of them are positive, encouraging, or complimentary of the Wings organization, its players, its management or the city of Detroit at all. I am pretty sure he is a 13 year old fan of some other team who just comes to flame. He is always bragging about himself and bashing everything about the Wings (just look at his Avatar. He knows what he is doing, makes a habit out of being rude and condescending, and it's sad that he has to get on the internet to feel tough and get his jollies.

LOL. Great post. You tought me alot about hockey with it, thanks.

I agree with you that Chicago ain't that great. I mean, I wouldn't live there either. It's got a cool vibe and I like to visit once in a while, but I'm not about to move in, lol.

Awwww. <smooch> I knew you'd find me!

The Wings are the best franchise in profesional sports, they are the best hockey team in the NHL and have more tallent than any team that has ever played the game. You'll never hear me say "Wings suck" or any such nonsence. They rule.

It is completely unfair to compare Detroit to Chicago - we may as well be comparing Grand Rapids to Atlanta.

I agree.

Grand Rapids rules. Atlanta is a cespool.

What a joke you are, you knew I would find you? I started this thread but yeah somehow I "found" you. No, I just try to start a thread congratulating the Wings, Blackhawks, and the NHL that the ratings were so good and like usual you tag along afterward and spew bilge about how horrible something is (that is irrelevant to the original topic) just because you have the inability to refrain from whining and moaning because something doesn't happen to be exactly like you in your finite wisdom think that it should be. But yeah, I manage to find you on the thread I created. <_<

Thanks for the observation. I've been watching his posts since he got here. He doesn't realize that it's not what he says, but how he says it that reveals his personality and nature. The internet is an impersonal way to speak one's mind, and I guarantee most folks don't communicate the same way face to face, because whoop-ass then becomes a factor. You don't have to have manners online. Virtual fat lips can simply be deleted. It takes all kinds to turn a world.

Aww, silly. The topic was fluid, from TV ratings, to attendence, from attendence to factors that drive attendance. Of course, qualities and circumstances of individual cities vary and do effect attendance. Sme here apparently disagree with my assesment of Deroit. I'm not convinced that that progression is "irrelevant to the original topic".

Wen I said "I knew you'd find me", I didn't mean simply that you'd see my posts in this thread, but rather that you would get all 4th grade crush-y and start talking about how icky I am and such. I already told you, you're not my type. Enough with the flirting. I don't know beans about you and don't care to pay enough atention to you to say "Oh Frozen Mam, that chick's always saying how this or that.." because I don't care enough to notice, much less to talk about you. I'm flattered by your attention, but also a little creeped out.

Yeah I agree that there is no requirement that a person have manners online it is just a sad insight into a person when they have none but like you said there is no requirement that you act mature or decent online so sadly this is what you end up with and what you have put up with. If you want to have a decent discussion on this site you have to wade through some of the crap but luckily Micah is the exception rather than the rule here.

BTW, sorry about participating in the derailment of your thread.

No problem, it happens some times and anyway I don't really consider that you derailed it, Micah did by needlessly ripping on Detroit and they you defended your city, perfectly understandable. :)

No it wasn't a fluid topic, it was specifically about the TELEVISION ratings for one specific game. The topic was not about arena attendance for the season or the playoffs and had absolutely nothing to do with whether or not you could buy crack in Detroit. You are just unable to not dump bitterness and negativity even when it is irrelevant.

Why are you talking about something other than the ratings of game 1 if the topic is not fluid? You're off-topic in a thread that you created and defined the topic of. You should report you.:)

Is that a serious question? North of the coast there's Roscoe Villege, Lincoln Square and plenty of families are moving into Bucktown/Wicker Park. West of Halsted and South of the Ike? What about Beverly, Oak Lawn or Bridgeport?

"Mom! A guy I don't like isn't replying to my psuedo-threats and suggestions of cowardice on the internet!"

Is this where I'm supposed to say "This is how I talk in real life and nobody give me fat lips" and then you call me an internet tough guy? I have nothing to prove to you, and I'm not really all that interested in explaining myself to you or trying to impress you or whatever. Sorry.
