Turretin 0 Report post Posted May 26, 2009 1. Why does a player need to fight after a clean hit? 2. You have no clue whether Babcock ordered him NOT to fight? (weighing our past results, and his importance to the team, and Lilja being out, that is a distinct possibility) 3. He is paid to play hockey, not to box. I don't think it's gutless to not want to fight. 4. In the situation he was in, the fight only could have hurt the Wings, not helped them.
NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted May 26, 2009 That was a beautiful hockey hit, nowhere near gutless. That hit represented everything good about the game. Gutless was when Kronwall refused to man-up and drop 'em with the smaller Versteeg last game. If you throw your body around, people are gonna wanna go with you and avenge their teamate's injury. Give them the chance (provided they're not 2 weight classes above you or the game is tied with 4 minutes to go in the 3rd or you're an elite scorer who can't risk cutting up your dainty little hands - none of those applied here). Makes the game more interesting. And run the risk of getting injured when the Wings had nothing to gain from his fight and a lot to lose if Kronwall gets seriously hurt. Brilliant. Some people here want to be "entertained" by a hockey fight, I'd rather be entertained by solid hockey and smart decision-making.

I think they did have something to gain from it. A) Kronwall is a fair bit bigger than Versteeg. He may well have been able to take another Hawk out of the lineup. That's not nothing. B) It's humiliating when your guy gets hurt from a beautiful check. It's tripple humiliating when you send someone to stand up to the hiteer, and that guy gets owned too. But seriously, I would learn SOMETHING about hockey before you post on the sport. The Wings are kicking ass and you're still not satisfied and won't be until they just fight and forget about hockey. Are you one of the guys who calls into talk shows and says "long time caller, first time listener?" Except you mean it?

A) Kronwall is then out of the lineup for 5 minutes while the Wings were already skating minus one of their best defensive forwards in Datsyuk. B) You're assuming he wins the fight which isn't a guarantee and even if he wins, nothing happens to him. C) If the Hawks are so mentally weak that they'd let one of their players losing in a fight further demoralize them, I doubt they would of made it to the WCF's. Good post...weight classes aside, we have two regulars (ok, semi-regular, especially in Kopy's case) hurt at the moment because of fighting. So maybe Versteeg can't hurt Kronwall, but even in the best-case, you're trading 5s between a guy that has been rock-solid (and absolutely vital as long as Nick Sr. is out) and a punk ***** that likes to cross-check people in the back after the whistle literally 2 seconds after getting out of the box for doing the same exact thing. "Triply humiliating" to me is destroying the Hawks 6-1 while they were busy trying to Tootoo everyone to retailiate for a good, clean hockey hit. That's freaking entertaining, watching a team melt down because you're owning them. See also Calgary 2007.
