HockeyCrazy3033 168 Report post Posted May 27, 2009 You guys do realize how royally f***ed we are if we have to play back to backs on Saturday/Sunday, right? If Lidstrom isn't at least at 80% the Wings are f***ed against a team with Crosby and Malkin on it. Lidstrom can neutralize a great deal of the threat in one of those two players. After that we're playing the Ducks with s***ty defense. The Wings could deal with Getzlaf, they can deal with one of Crosby or Malkin. No Lidstrom, no way they can deal with both. So I ask you this- can you honestly say Lidstrom is ready to play a back to back of must win games on Saturday/Sunday when he can't even play the game on Wednesday? Can the Wings win against the Pens without Datsyuk playing at least at the level he was playing before injury (amazing PKing, great scoring pressure but not clicking)? Let's put it this way- if Lidstrom and Datsyuk can't heal up AND the Wings are f***ed by the League and have to play back to backs for their home games, we're effectively the underdogs. It's shocking how many people here are acting like the OP is being rediculous by posing this question. A week long break could be the difference between winning and losing against the Pens. Against a healthy Wings the Pens are underdogs. Against the Wings minus their regular season MVP and the 2nd greatest defenseman to ever play the game, the Pens are the favourites. A top pairing of Ericsson-Rafalski will get eaten alive by Crosby's line. It is a ridiculous idea. Beyond ridiculous at that. We all want the Wings to be 100% healthy before the start of the finals, but to lose Game 5 and RISK the Hawks coming back is a horrible, horrible idea. If the Hawks win tonight and then go back home, anything can happen. Seeing as how Babs said he believes Nick and Pav will be ready for the next game that is played, I'm confident they'll be fine. You put the series away when you get the chance to, you don't let the other team have any way of getting back in the series. Period.
ifonlyicouldskate 11 Report post Posted May 27, 2009 Thats a very risky idea. I would prefer to finish the chickenhawks as soon as possible. But then again we could use the extra time to rest up. Do you really think the extra week would be enough time to heal our superstars? I don't think so if they are not playing tonight. This is the god damn playoffs, you play hurt on one leg, with one ********. with one lung and all heart!

I seem to remember hearing that repeatedly about Rafalski, and it sounded like it was possible Dats could've been back for Sunday's game as well and now he's not even ready for today. So don't put any weight in Babs injury statements.
YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted May 27, 2009 If we win, cool. If we lose, it makes the loss a lot easier to stomach. The thought of only 2 days rest before back to back games makes me just as nervous as a 3-2 series lead.

And if Pavs and Lids play Saturday, they'll have had over a week off. Obviously won't be fully healed though.

I don t see us winning the pens without Dats and Lids People we are not saying it would be better than the wings will loose, but the scenario of a win 4-2 over the Hawks with rest and the opportunity to have back Lids and Dats while the pens will get rusty seems to me definitively better than to play the pens to a back to back game saturday against a red hot pens team witout 2 of our stars

The thought of only 2 days rest before back to back games makes me just as nervous as a 3-2 series lead. This is my point. I can see a reason for this hypothetical debate. We all know they won't throw the game, but it's interesting to talk about the possibilities.

swiss_fan 3 Report post Posted May 27, 2009 (edited) With Ericcson out do you really want to go with a Cheli-Meech against the Pens? the answer should obviously be no now, because yes we can advance on the final today but will be eaten alive on saturday and sunday if all our injured players do not come back Draper- out Ericson-out Lidstrom-out Datsuyk-out Rafalski- still may be suffer from his injury Edited May 27, 2009 by swiss_fan

While I always want the W above all else, we can get in a hole against the Pens pretty damn quick with the back-to-back games and no turnaround time at all with arguably our two best players possibly out. It would be a solid silver lining if we lose. Only thing is, if we lose game 5, the Hawks are going home with a chance to tie. I'll worry about losing the SCF after I'm done worrying about losing the WCF. We're up 3-1, but other than game 4, we haven't dominated this series. A crack of daylight and some momentum could be trouble.
hockeysattva 8 Report post Posted May 28, 2009 The Wings won, but I do somewhat agree that more time off could have been good for the Wings, though I think we all must get this out of our heads. The schedule doesn't hurt the Wings, its just the schedule, both teams have to play by it, and nobody NOBODY should use it for an excuse. Like I said, I do think the extra week off would have been better, but they needed to win tonight and did.
Manoir 70 Report post Posted May 28, 2009 First time in my life I was cheering against the Wings. Now they have to play 3 games in 4 nights with a far from healthy lineup against a very motivated opponent. It is so crucial to win game 1.
